1) Sistrix Tracks Google Bloodbath
Sistrix has tracked the effects of the Google Farmer update on a range of well known websites. To do this, they used their own Visibility Index formula calculated from traffic on keywords, ranking and click-through rate on specific positions.
Only time will tell how accurate this data is but it does reinforce what we have been discussing over the past 2 weeks.
Based upon keyword rankings, it shows that some sites such as EzineArticles.com and HubPages have lost rankings on almost 90% of their keywords.
In the case of Mahalo.com, the before and after graph shows a dramatic change in the distribution of their keyword rankings over page 1 – 10 of Google.
In Sistrix’s words: “It’s eye-catching that mahalo.com did not only lose more than 70% of their keywords – the remaining keywords are also ranking much worse than before.”

Here’s Allan’s view…
As I see it, Google played a huge role in creating the mess it’s now trying to clean up.
The launch of Google’s AdSense encouraged the mass production of low quality articles and low quality sites. Why has Google been so dreadfully slow in punishing such sites? Surely it isn’t because of the billions it receives in AdWords revenue? Well, yes, actually it could be. Do no evil? Don’t make me laugh.
No doubt, some innocents are suffering and some cunning spin merchants are escaping punishment – for now. However, you don’t have to be a genius to predict that Google’s engineers will keep getting better at finding genuine high quality sites that people use and like. So that’s the kind of sites we all build, right?
