Associate Programs Newsletter #307
Life’s too short. We don’t have time to do all the work ourselves.
One good way of getting other people to work for you – at no cost – is to tap into their traffic.
This time, it’s website traffic…

1. Tapping into other traffic – Part 2
======================================
In newsletter #306, I described an affiliate who is getting leverage by tapping into someone else’s traffic, and asked for more examples.
Wakas Mir responded. He’s doing some interesting stuff, tapping into other websites’ traffic to promote his online radio station.
He launched the radio station, CrazeFM.com, about 18 months ago.
“It’s basically targeted towards Asians (Pakistanis and Indians) around the world. And as it’s proven that we are in millions…”
Wakas was born in Lahore, Pakistan.
CrazeFM.com is a request-based station, where users request songs and “crazeup” a song, a term Wakas invented. A song that’s crazedup by more people is played sooner than other songs.
He has also integrated an SMS system which allows people from 19+ countries to request songs from their cellphone along with a dedication. Wakas believes this is a first of its kind.
He says his approach to tapping into traffic – to share his massive music collection with others – is simple.
He gets in touch with the most trafficked sites in the following categories…
– Music
– Communities
– Online Clubs
…and offers them a personalized package that includes:
– Their own radio popup
(for example AssociatePrograms Radio)
– The playlist
– The current song being played
– Who requested it? (their username)
– A link on the popup that says:
“Click to request”
The link goes to his website CrazeFM.com where the user registers in very simple steps to start requesting songs.
“So their user gets a service free and we get to share their user, who enjoys music all day long while doing their job.”
A white label solution is also available, where the portal owners get their own playlist on their page, and their users can automatically request songs without registering on CrazeFM.
Three of his “Popup Partners”, as he calls them, have more than 100,000 members. “The other is India’s largest portal and uses our stream for their cellphone subscribers, who number around 2 million,” Wakas says.
“CrazeFM is not just a radio station any more, but a community of people who enjoy music and see it as a home away from home where they take part in discussions and competitions. There are also live shows that I host where I grill celebrities from Bollywood. To date, I have interviewed the lead roles of every Indian TV series that is aired on cable network and top singers from Bollywood.
“I have always believed in one thing, and that is “Just go for it.’ I am a graphics designer by profession, but have had tons of sales and marketing experience.
“It’s always fun to try out new things. Four years back I did something similar with a PPC engine that I set up where I hooked up with two Chinese high traffic portals and gave them 50% commission on each click they sent to my advertisers.
“Result: $550+ (US) every 24 hours.”
Wakas explains that the guys who ran the portals lived in China but were running successful English websites.
“One was a kids game site and the best position for the search field they had for me was on top of their page.”
“I must say it was worth the email. I wrote it in a way explaining the costs and issues that come up when we have to pay the bills for a server that’s running such high traffic sites.”
He provided an estimate of what they could earn and “it was kind of difficult for them to say no”.
The PPC engine site was up a few months before it closed, due to personal reasons and lack of time.
“So to those that are just bit too shy about going ahead and trying out new things, my advice would be: If not NOW then WHEN?” Wakas says.
“Don’t ever assume that the person you are sending the email to will reply. At the end of the day if you believe in your product, then not receiving a reply won’t give you a heartbreak. All you do is just move on to the next one … Good luck!”

To be continued… Maybe. That’s up to you, Dear Reader.

2. Are you tapping into other traffic?
======================================
Many thanks to the readers who responded to my request for examples of how you are tapping into other people’s traffic.
To the innovative affiliates who suggested ways they could tap into MY traffic, thanks but no thanks. Sorry, but they weren’t strong win-win offers.
What I didn’t think I’d need to explain is that if you want to tap into other people’s traffic, you MUST come up with a win-win arrangement, providing strong benefits to both sides.
Also, you need to sell your idea.
Someone who has spent years building and nurturing a website or an email list isn’t likely to hand it over to you merely because you ask for it. You have to sell, and you have to have something worth selling.
I call it tapping into other people’s traffic. Marketing guru Jay Abraham calls it a “host/beneficiary relationship”. Whatever you call it, you’re gaining access to a new group of potential customers.
I’m still interested in receiving more examples of affiliates or merchants who are tapping into other people’s traffic.

3. Google’s free tool to optimize conversion rates
==================================================
Google has started beta testing a new Website Optimizer for people who advertise via AdWords.
Website Optimizer uses multivariate testing to improve website conversion rates. You can speed up your testing and tweaking by testing multiple variables – in this case, sections of a page – simultaneously.
“For example, using Website Optimizer, you could identify the headline, image, and promo text as the page sections you’d like to test, and then create three different variations for each page section. Users visiting your page during the experiment might therefore see Headline A, Image B, and Promo Text C all together, or Headline B, Image C, and Promo Text A,” Google says.
Website Optimizer produces a report which shows you clearly which combinations work best.
You need an AdWords account and a Google Analytics account to use Website Optimizer.
Beta testers can sign up to try Website Optimizer here…

4. Can someone kill your rankings?
==================================
I don’t know what to think about this scary stuff.
There’s a weird post on our affiliate forum from someone who received an odd phone call and then his MSN rankings disappeared. Is it just a coincidence or something more sinister?
He says, in part…
“Ok… so my question and concern is, can someone possibly do something to kill my rankings on MSN?
