1. Recharging our batteries and setting goals

This is the time of the year when Joanna and I like to take a little break and recharge our batteries. We’re house-sitting for friends of friends at a rambling house near a lake in the center of New Zealand’s South Island.
There’s a cherry tree in the corner of the yard, and I’ve just been up it picking half a bucket of cherries.
It’s mid-summer Down Under, and for us that means extended family time. There are about 15 of us here, including four friends in a large tent on the lawn, with several more family members staying in houses nearby.
As you can imagine, not much work is being done.
As each new year begins, Joanna and I like to look back on the old year and make plans and set goals for the new year.
2007 was a good year for us, including the launch of our first affiliate product, SpeedPPC, in July. (Thanks, Jay.) Sales are still going strongly – we’re paying hefty commissions each month. If you understand the PPC niche, this is a good product to promote.
2008, with the addition of our new office in Queensland, Australia, and three brand new employees, should prove to be an interesting, challenging year. Jay and I have made a detailed list of business goals for 2008. Well, actually, Jay made the list and I just told him how good it was. (I’m even delegating goal-setting these days!)
Years ago, I used to set money goals. These days, Joanna and I tend to concentrate mainly on lifestyle goals.
One of our goals for 2008 is to take a European river cruise on the Rhine and the Danube, with side trips to Paris and Prague. We’re going to do that in October. Before then, we’ll have to do some serious delegating so that the trip really IS a vacation.
Over the next few months, I’ll have to make a list of everything I do and ask myself, “Who can I delegate this to while I’m on vacation?”

2. How one thing leads to another

When Jay Stockwell joined me as a business partner in 2005 one of the early decisions we made was that he would travel halfway round the world to attend Yanik Silver’s Underground Seminar.
It was a long way to go, but I’ve known Yanik for years and I have enormous admiration for his skills – and for his ability to persuade successful people to open up and reveal their techniques.

Thanks in large part to the revenue stream which SpeedPPC is producing, we’re now opening an office and hiring three new employees.
Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. Surround yourself with people who can help and encourage you, people who are at the top of their game.
