1. Non-techie way of getting your own store
Datafeeds for the technically challenged
===========================================
Stefan Everaet, owner of Niche Content Packages, is now offering a new service which provides a quick way of owning your own affiliate store, stocked with hundreds of affiliate products.
You can change your stores in a heap of different ways by adding your own content.
These “ready-made affiliate datafeed stores” are built around the datafeeds of one or more affiliate merchants.
So you can promote hundreds of affiliate products on your site, maybe even thousands.
If you’ve been manually updating your affiliate links, you’ll love this. When the vendor updates products, you can update all the affiliate links in your store with a few clicks.
Already, enthusiastic testimonials are pouring in, with comments such as “fantastic”, “brilliant”, and…
“I am amazed at how FAST this goes! I’ve never done anything like this, but I was able to get my affiliate store up and running in about an hour.”
To start with, Stefan is using datafeeds from Shareasale, a good affiliate network. In coming months, he’ll use other networks as well. Hundreds of affiliate programs offer affiliate datafeeds.
Just in case you’re not sure exactly what an affiliate datafeed is, it’s a file that contains the products from a vendor’s shop. This file normally contains product names, product descriptions, product images, product price, categories, and product URL.
You automatically get all that information on your site. You earn a commission whenever someone buys one of the products.
You don’t need to be a techie to own one or more of these attractive stores. Stefan provides step-by-step installation instructions, but if you wish you can simply hire Stefan’s programmer to do the installation for you for a small fee.
“We take away the technical hurdles,” Stefan says.
He’s offering more than an affiliate store. You can build a content site around the store.
Because the stores are built using the powerful and popular WordPress blog platform, it’s easy to add as much content as you wish, using rewritten PLR (private label rights) content, reprint articles, your own articles, public domain material, even videos or any other content to which you have access.
If you’re familiar with WordPress, you’ll know its many advantages. It enables you to add content easily, ping search engines, use your favorite WordPress plugins, and so on. You can make your sites unique in many ways.
Other ways in which you can alter your store are: choosing to show random products in a sidebar, adding a newsletter form for building a list, and making your site an AdSense site. You can also choose to display ads from another ad network, or use your own ads in rotation with network ads.
To start with, you have three topics to choose from – pets, gardening and events. Weddings will be available next week. More topics will follow.
You can choose from several themes and easily switch the layout of your site in seconds.
“This is another way to make sure not all sites out there are duplicates,” Stefan says. “As we grow, more custom themes will be added giving customers more options.”
Stefan is using a credits based system for his membership site. You can choose to get just one store, or choose just the topics in which you’re interested, or get everything he provides – it’s your choice.

2. Will the stores be thin affiliates?
======================================
I’ve known Stefan for years. He has a very good reputation and has more than 1,000 customers for his high quality Niche Content Packages, which were launched in 2005.
However, when he first told me about his datafeed affiliate sites I was a bit skeptical because I was wondering how well they would rank in search engines.
So I asked him some questions…
1) Do you have experience yourself with datafeed sites?
“It’s only since I started to work with SpeedPPC some months ago that I discovered the power of affiliate datafeeds. In the meantime I learned the basics but I’ve teamed up with a programmer/web designer for the real technical part and he will be able to give support to any questions or install issues that may come in.”
2) Are affiliates going to have trouble getting these sites ranked well in search engines?
“With our service our main goal is to take away the technical hurdles that prevent a lot of affiliate marketers from using datafeeds in their marketing. Our stores are no different from any other sites when it comes to ranking well in search engines. Just setting up your store will not help much. If that’s someone’s goal we recommend you NOT join our service.
“Users still need to *take action* to promote their sites and to make their sites unique. This means doing keyword research, adding content, submitting articles, exchanging links … ALL the same things one should do to promote any other regular site.
“That’s why we have chosen not to add content to the stores. We could have added hundreds of PLR and reprint articles to the stores to make life easier for users but we have chosen not to do so as we want the users to take action. In addition it will result in more differentiation as each user will add different content, use different categories to put their content in, etc.
“We experimented also with some stores to see if they would easily be picked up by the search engines. We installed some stores and added some posts to our blog and submitted some articles to some well known article directories. We noticed that all our sites were picked up and indexed by Google in a relatively short time from only a few days to a week.”
(Stefan showed me a couple of his stores.)
“These may have a good ranking (in the top 10) for these keywords because of their domain names but I just wanted to show you that Google does not reject our kind of stores and it only takes one to two articles to get indexed (and eventually ranked). Of course further customization is needed for ranking well for better keywords.”
He says an affiliate should consider his store as a starting point.
3) Isn’t there a risk that Google will see these sites, which contain a large number of links to Shareasale, as thin affiliate sites?
“The chances that a store is considered a ‘thin-affiliate’ site are of course higher when users don’t put efforts into customizing their sites by adding content, for example. That’s why we suggest that users only join if they are prepared to *take action* by adding valuable content to their sites.
4) How many copies of each Niche Content Store will you sell?
“Per WordPress theme that is available we offer 40 copies. The more themes that are available per store the more copies will be available for download as we feel that this gives the user more options to differentiate in design. So a store with 2 themes will be available for 80 people, 3 themes 120 people and so on.
“… It’s true that several people will choose the same design, so it’s still necessary to customize the site but by offering different themes, the number of people all using the same design will be much lower.
“In addition people can replace, for example, the images we used with their own images, they can use other background colors and fonts, etc in order to give their sites the look they like. There are so many options but again it takes work, so once again we do not recommend people join if they plan to only install their sites and not touch them again.”
5) My understanding of datafeed-based sites is that you need to work very hard to make them unique. What makes you sure the methods you recommend will be enough?
“Our stores are no magic pill. As already mentioned our sites are no different from any other regular sites. The same amount of effort and hard work has to be put in to promote and customize.
“We want to offer a head start to affiliates by providing them a quality site with the option to build a content site around their stores. Adding a mailing list form, favorite plugins, replacing pics, fonts, background colors, adding advertising, adding various forms of content (articles, video…) and more are all ways to make the sites more unique. Will it be enough? Only testing will tell. We offer the platform, it’s up to the user to decide how far to go in their customization. The more unique the better the site will do in the search engines. By using the WordPress platform we wanted to make it as easy as possible but it’s still up to the user to *do it*. Don’t forget the sites can be used for PPC marketing too…
“With NCS we save affiliates the time and headaches in setting up a datafeed site. The hard work is done for them… One can just install the sites and hope for the best. Or one can put in some effort and make the sites more unique,” Stefan said.
To own one of these stores, you need a Unix web hosting account. Before you buy and before you decide whether to do the installation yourself or to get Stefan’s programmer to do it, you need to read this article…
