1. This is not for everyone
===========================================
Affiliate manager Gordon Penza has written a new manual for affiliates.
It has some good points and some bad points.
This is not for everyone so I’ll tell you about it and you can make up your own mind.
Gordon manages the successful Uniblue affiliate program, so he’s in a good position to see a wide range of affiliate websites – all the way from very successful to absolute duds.
Part of his book is a cautionary tale of two affiliates – Daniel and Jeff – one successful and one not. It’s a very powerful way of teaching affiliates what they should be doing and what they shouldn’t.
On page 34 he describes how the affiliate who’s a “failure” is averaging a profit of $200 a month. I know affiliates in countries such as Romania and the Philippines who would be absolutely delighted if they could earn $200 a month so easily.
Gordon introduces the reader to affiliate marketing and covers such topics as choosing a niche, getting a domain name, designing and building a website, finding products to promote, newsletters, and so on.
Most of the 320-page Affiliate Insider is made up of interviews with 30 leading affiliate industry experts.
It contains many valuable insights and strategies. The people interviewed really are “insiders”.
It’s useful to see the tips coming from such a wide variety of sources.
However, Gordon brushes very lightly over the extremely important topics of website promotion and search engine optimization. By almost ignoring them, he gives the impression that he thinks they’re not important.
Page 171 quotes a highly successful affiliate: “…it’s easy to promote online.”
Many affiliates will read that and wish Gordon had asked for more details.
That’s a major problem with a book written in a Q and A format.
The author could have enhanced the book greatly if he’d gone back to the people he interviewed and asked them to explain and elaborate on various interesting comments they’ve made.
So while the book has holes in it. It’s a not a complete how-to manual for affiliates.
If you’ve never bought an affiliate marketing book, you’d be better off starting with one of the ones on my Resources page – Affiliate Resources
If you already have a good affiliate manual and you’re looking for more points of view, you’ll find many valuable insights and strategies in Affiliate Insider.
If you’re good at examining successful websites and learning from them, you’ll want to study some of the successful affiliate sites discussed.
One of them gets 120,000 unique visitors a DAY. Wow!

2. AdWords Dominator: Out-Googling Google
========================================
If you use Google AdWords to get traffic to your site, you’ll know what a pain in the neck it is to use.
It’s suddenly a lot easier and simpler, thanks to Chris Lee and Goran Nagy.
Chris and Goran, the guys who created the highly advanced keyword research software Keywords Analyzer, have now created AdWords Dominator.
After several months of rigorous testing, it’s out of beta and now publicly available.
Our resident keyword research expert, Jay Stockwell, who was one of the beta testers, takes a close look at how the software works to see if these two guys really have “Out Googled” Google.

3. Are you overlooking this Google tip?
=========================================
Google does some interesting stuff right in front of our eyes but LOTS of webmasters don’t seem to have noticed its significance.
It could affect how your site ranks in search engines.
First, a disclaimer.
I’m not a search engine expert. I know how to get thousands of visitors a day but not hundreds of thousands.
I could be wrong, but I think this is important.
I’m sure you’ve noticed what happens when you go to Google and do a search for, say, “affiliate” but accidentally type “affilaite”.
Google will ask you…
Did you mean: affiliate
Fact: Google uses a spell checking system.
Fact: Google can tell you how many pages contain a particular misspelled word.
Inference: Google thinks correct spelling is important and can easily factor this into its ranking algorithms.
Writer Joel Walsh goes even further.
He says that his research shows that the pages at the top of Google have only one thing clearly in common: good writing – including correct spelling.
Here’s what his research discovered:
https://www.searchenginejournal.com/index.php?p=1874
Here’s a quick and easy way.
A new web-based tool locates all your spelling mistakes for you, showing you exactly where on each page the spelling mistake occurs.
You’ll probably be horrified to see how many mistakes occur on your site.
How many spelling mistakes do you have?
Try it and see. It doesn’t cost anything to try…
[UPDATE: It is now called TextTrust.com.]========================================

We love receiving happy emails from satisfied advertisers. Here’s one we received this week from an advertiser who published a couple of ads in the Associate Programs Newsletter:
Hi Allan and Ros,
I just wanted to let you know you have one of the most responsive ezine lists I’ve ever used for paid advertising.
I was so happy with the results of the first ad that I did a second ad 2 months later. I had money back within 10 minutes of your ezine going out. That ad pulled in 628% ROI and they are still coming in a week later!
Not only that but the great support and professionalism that you both display is fantastic.
I highly recommend your ezine.
Warm Regards,
Jeremy Gislason

5. Fortunes from type-in traffic
========================================
Here’s an aspect of Internet marketing we don’t often hear about.
Rick Schwartz owns 5,000 domain names and claims to be making $2 million a year from type-in traffic.
He paid $108,000 for one of the names. Some days he makes $300 profit from that one site.
I’ve made a post about this on our affiliate forum, with a link to more details.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s doing this stuff successfully.

6. Thought for today: large leaps

“Anything can be achieved in small, deliberate steps. But there are times you need the courage to take a great leap; you can’t cross a chasm in two small jumps.” – David Lloyd George.
All the best
