1. How to get links to your site faster
========================================
by Jay Stockwell
It’s no secret that an important part of getting your site ranked well in search engines relies heavily on off page factors. As you probably already know, a large aspect of this is getting links from relevant websites using anchor text that contains the keywords you are optimizing for.
The trouble is link building is really a pain in the rear end. Anyone who has spent any time at all doing this kind of stuff knows it really sucks. It’s boring, tedious and just flat out annoying. I hate it.
Unfortunately, like brushing your teeth, you just have to do it. Your website can have all the charm of Annie, but Google and friends won’t add any orphaned website to their index. They want to see that your website has lots of influential friends telling the world about just how good your site is.
I’m resigned to the fact that I need links to help improve my search engine ranking so I’m constantly on the lookout for safe ways to streamline my link building process. There are lots of weird and not so wonderful methods out there. The problem is many, if not most, of them are too risky. I put too much effort into the sites to have them locked out of the search engines because of dodgy link building schemes.
The other day Allan sent me a link for a relatively new service called Link Metro that he said looked interesting. I had a quick look on the site to see if it was one of those risky systems. Everything seemed to check out as far as I could tell so I decided to sign up and test the service on one of our less mainstream websites.
This service offered two versions, basic and advanced. While the basic version is very useful, it still requires quite a bit of manual work. The advanced version is a paid service but makes the whole link building process a heck of a lot easier due to the streamlined approach it takes. Pretty much every step of the way is as automated as it could be, without heading over into dangerous territory.
What Link Metro does is take each part of a normal link building process and then removes the painful parts. They really turn it into somewhat of a formality with very little effort required.
Normally the link building process works like this.
– Find relevant link partners
This is where both the basic and the advanced version of Link Metro help out. They provide a streamlined system to find potential link partners and for other link partners to find you. I was really impressed with how well even the basic version worked. It is all neatly organized in a directory by subject category so you can easily drill down and find relevant websites to obtain links from.
– Add the link to my website
While I was a basic version member I had to do this myself manually. Once I upgraded to the advanced version it was an absolute breeze. In one swoop I was able to both add the link to my website (including title, description and URL automatically), as well as make a request for the reciprocal link from the other website. It literally took less than a minute. The other website was contacted, told that there was a link in place and if they wished to link back they could. This process alone would have normally taken me 20 minutes per link.
– Check to see if your reciprocal link is in place
Now this is normally a major administrative headache for my link building processes. I have to first remember who I asked to put up the link, then need to go to the site and actually see if they put that link up. If they did, then it’s all ok, otherwise I have to remove the link manually. There goes another 15 minutes.
Link Metro does all the hard work and monitors this for me now. I just run the check from the Link Metro administration area and it goes and finds the websites that no longer (or never had) my link up. It alerts me of the offending sites, I click on delete and the link is removed from my website.
I no longer have to spend half a day checking and updating link exchanges. This process took less than 5 minutes.
Link Metro had some other neat features including the ability to add multiple sites (so you need only one subscription for all your websites) as well as the ability to filter link requests. This helps keep the links coming into your website more relevant.
One thing I would have liked to have seen improved with Link Metro is that I would like to see more variation in the link directory that Link Metro outputs for you. That way, not only can you better control how it looks on your site, you also are less likely to be penalized by the search engines. Perhaps a simple templating system might be useful.
Other than that, I think Link Metro is one of the best link building services available today and I highly recommend it.
Don’t make it your only source for link building, but use it to help get the edge on your competitors. It is so inexpensive, and so quick and easy to use. You would do well to add it to your marketing toolset.
Test it for yourself here…

2. New threat to duplicate content sites?
========================================
Have you thought of the effect of this?
Google Print – https://print.google.com/ – aims to scan and make available online the content of the world’s books – old and new.
Already you can go to Google Print and do a search for, say, “affiliate” and find a book called Strategic Affiliate Marketing by Simon Goldschmidt (I’d never heard of it).
Then you can search WITHIN the book for, say, “affiliate network”.
Or, say, you can search for “roses” and then “fertilizer”.
The Authors Guild is alleging breach of copyright. In the meantime, Google is plowing ahead, scanning “public domain” works – volumes no longer protected by copyright.
Google is smart. So let’s assume Google will win the court case.
I could be wrong but here’s what I think…
If you’re publishing content from books on your website, I think it’s inevitable that eventually Google will put two and two together and decide that your pages aren’t as valuable as pages which contain unique content.
So…
For long-term success, write, rewrite or perish.

3. Create your own blog empire – Part 2
=========================================
I recently reported that Gary Huynh, who has hundreds of blogs, had decided to tell you how he does it.
There was keen interest in Gary’s blogging tool, but one thing stopped many would-be buyers.
“Many people didn’t purchase because my product was hosted,” Gary says.
So now he has released a stand-alone version.
[UPDATE: This tool is no longer available.]========================================
4. Intense interest in PLR articles
========================================
Judging by the response I’ve received, there’s intense interest in private label rights (PLR) articles.
Nicheology is sold out. Paul Kleinmeulman’s first article site sold out in only four days. All Mike Long’s memberships disappeared fast, too, and Stefan Everaet has only a few spots left.
People who know how to use PLR articles are snapping up these offers, some of which enable you to get articles for as little as 15 or 20 cents each.
One of the best article sites offers training videos and all sorts of special assistance, including a very busy private forum.
Here’s an article I’ve written on where to get PLR articles:

5. Coming soon
========================================
Google is doing some interesting stuff right in front of our eyes, but LOTS of webmasters don’t seem to have realized its significance.
It could affect how your site ranks in search engines.
I’ll write about that in the next newsletter.
