Associate Programs Newsletter #203
After a hectic 10 days in Las Vegas for the Internet Marketing SuperConference, Joanna and I are happy to be back in the peace and quiet of our home by the beach at Tuan in Queensland, Australia.
As usual, we’re here for the southern winter.
I’ve just been out in the garden (it’s all bush – no lawn to mow), pruning the lower fronds on the palms. Now we’ll have more sun while we have lunch on the deck overlooking the beach.
In 1996, when I began tinkering about on the Internet, and even in 1998 when I set new bolder goals, I never imagined that my little hobby would lead to the comfortable lifestyle we have now.
We love being able to afford to take overseas trips and to buy a few luxuries, such as treats for Joanna’s elderly parents. (They’re coming to stay for a while to escape New Zealand’s coldest months, and we have a bottle of Laphroaig whisky waiting for them.)
If you’re not yet where you want to be, take heart.
Online businesses often begin slowly and then gradually gather a powerful momentum.
Picture yourself in your new house by the sea or the mountains. Feel the warm sand under your feet if that’s what you what. See it, believe it, REALLY believe it … You’ll get there.
Thank you, everyone, for telling your friends about AssociatePrograms.com and helping build that momentum.
You’re wonderful, and I’m truly grateful for your help.

1. The truth about Internet marketing conferences
=================================================
Imagine how exhilarating it would be… leaving an Internet marketing conference with your head buzzing with exciting ways to increase your sales and commissions, plans for new projects, joint venture agreements, tips to boost your subscriptions, and a bunch of new friends…
OR… imagine – after sitting through four days of discussions – you haven’t made any friends, you’re exhausted from the late nights, you’re befuddled by all the different possible paths to take, you don’t know where to start – and so you don’t actually start anything at all.
I hope that second scenario doesn’t sound dreadfully familiar.
Internet marketing conferences are very much what YOU make of them.
At the Internet Marketing SuperConference in Las Vegas, one speaker asked how many of the people present had attended a conference, taken notes and never looked at those notes again.
A lot of hands went up.
If you ask some conference attendees what they do on the Internet, they’ll tell you, “I haven’t decided yet.”
And how many Internet marketing conferences have they attended?
Perhaps two or three… and they’re still trying to decide what to do…
In total contrast, other marketers make the most of the frequent breaks. They approach the speakers and question them as they mingle among the attendees.
They grab a golden opportunity to ask the “gurus” any question they want, and receive candid answers. I’m always embarrassed to be called a guru, but I was happy to talk to those people who wanted to ask me questions.
Much of the real action often takes place just OUTSIDE the conference room, as experienced marketers do deals and arrange joint ventures.
For Joanna and me, a highlight of the conference was having a meal with zany Internet marketer Marlon Sanders and his lovely girlfriend Ginky way up Las Vegas’s version of the Eiffel Tower.
As you probably know, Marlon is the author of, among other books, “The Amazing Formula That Sells Products Like Crazy – https://www.associateprograms.com/amazing . The title says it all. He’s a great guy who’s brilliant at selling – and he shows you how, step by step.
At many conferences these days the speakers aren’t paid and the content is almost pure selling. Other conferences contain pure useful content for which the speakers are paid handsomely.
The Vegas SuperConference was a selling conference, and boy, did they SELL! After most speeches, people rushed to the back of the room to sign up for high-ticket items.
There were extremes…
Three speakers didn’t show up.
Lori Prokop and Janet Switzer did nothing but SELL.
Off-stage, one marketer used bait-and-switch tactics.
Alex Carroll did almost nothing but GIVE. (He’s a nice guy.)
Marlon Sanders mainly just entertained. He’s a lot of fun.
However, most of the 20+ speakers – and moderator Fred Gleeck – generously provided helpful, useful tips and insider information.

2. $100,000 a month from only 100 visitors a day
================================================
Here’s an astounding tip from the Vegas SuperConference…
Bill Harris earns $100,000 a month from only 100 visitors a day, Carl Galletti of AdSecrets.com told the conference.
Bill’s site is https://www.centerpointe.com and it sells a product for $149.
If you visit the site, you’ll see Bill’s persuasive writing and powerful testimonials but those alone don’t earn him $100,000 a month.
It’s his ingenious selling PROCESS that’s really important.
For that, you have to look behind the scenes, Carl explained.
First of all, Bill uses an on-exit pop-up which you won’t see unless you decide not to buy and try to leave the site.
The pop-up thanks you for visiting Centerpointe and says:
“If you will take a few seconds to answer a few simple questions for us, we will reward you handsomely for your trouble!”
For answering seven questions, Bill bribes you with a free audio tape worth $19.95 and a free special report.
(Thus, he captures your physical address and gives you products which continue the selling process.)
He asks you questions which tell him useful things about you and why you didn’t buy the product .
He subscribes you to his monthly newsletter.
(He captures your email address.)
He sends you an instant reply saying your cassette is on the way.
Five days later you’ll hear from him again.
What’s really clever is that he sends DIFFERENT letters depending on how you answered his questions.
If you decide to buy and click on the link to pay, he offers a variety of payment methods, and – in case you’re having second thoughts – he reassures you with testimonials.
His newsletter contains even more testimonials.
If you’re selling something on the Internet, pop over to
https://www.centerpointe.com and study Bill’s selling process.
If you want to create an on-exit pop-up like Bill’s, a good source is “Amazing Pop-Ups”.
[UPDATE: Jonathan Mizel is no longer selling Amazing Pop-Ups.]==================================
3. BigSeminar pays $500 commission
==================================
One of the lessons taught at the SuperConference was that big- ticket items can earn you bigger profits.
Instead of just selling an ebook, most of the speakers sold a complete package, for example an ebook, a cassette set, a CD, a workbook, a video set…
Instead of selling information for $29 they sell a package for $995.
As an affiliate, if you have the right audience, you may find it more profitable to promote high-ticket items which pay large commissions.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful earning a $500 commission from ONE sale?
That’s what affiliates promoting a seminar coming up next month will earn.
It’s called the BigSeminar – Bill Barrett’s “live Internet coaching class”.
It pays $500 commission on the first tier and $100 on the second.

6. AIS Media closes program, but has not closed down
====================================================
AIS Media has stopped accepting applications for new affiliates.
However, the affiliate program has NOT closed. AIS President and CEO Thomas Harpointner says support for existing affiliates will continue.
The company, which says it expanded operations and relocated its office to a more centralized area in Atlanta in March, offers premium-quality web hosting.
At this stage, Tom isn’t saying why the company has stopped taking on new affiliates. He won’t go into details about his marketing plans.
“However, keep a watch this fall,” he says.
[UPDATE: The program eventually closed.]===========================================
7. Useful FREE resource: DeletedDomains.com
===========================================
Do you think all the good domain names have gone? Don’t believe it.
Thousands of good names are being allowed to expire every week.
The “power search” tool at DeletedDomains.com allows you to search for deleted or on-hold domain names. It’s free.
You can configure the search in all sorts of different ways.
Let’s say you want to build a site about vacations, for example.
I did this search yesterday.
I searched for .COM domain names that were deleted in the last 60 days, contain the word “travel”, exclude numbers, exclude hyphens, and are no more than 16 characters long.
The result: 585 matching domains available now.
Do a search for any topic in which you’re interested and you ought to be able to find a good recently expired name.
The site is updated daily.
https://www.deleteddomains.com
I don’t know if this site will remain free. This could just be a trial period to encourage people to talk about the site. It’s very good!
