1. Google launches restricted referral program
========================================
I've often said I wished Google had a referral program for AdSense. It would be nice to be rewarded for sending people to such a useful program.
At long last Google has come to the party. It has launched a referral program for AdSense and AdWords.
It pays $20 for referring a new publisher and $20 for referring a new advertiser.
For you to be paid, the publisher must earn at least $75 from AdSense. The advertiser must spend at least $20 at AdWords.
At this stage the program is only for U.S. based websites. For a global company, that seems an odd decision.
Make sure you read the affiliate agreement.
The rules are strict. For example…
You're not allowed to “cause any hyperlinks to web pages on the Google web site to create a new browser window”.
You're not allowed to send an email to prospective customers that includes “any reference” to “Google Materials”.
You're not allowed to issue any public statement, for example a press release) in connection with the affiliate agreement and your participation in the referral program without Google's prior written consent.
So if you want to publicly discuss Google's conditions, you'd better do it BEFORE you apply to join the program, not after.
You can read all about it here…

2. Struggling to write articles? Gary can help
========================================
Gary Antosh always seems to be brimming with ideas.
He churns out articles fast, by buying them and writing them.
His first ebook, “How to Create Website Content Fast”, described how to buy articles for your site for as little as $5. (Here's an article by Gary describing how he does that – https://www.associateprograms.com/articles/101/1/Buy-website-articles )
Do you like his simple, helpful writing style? Then you'll love his new book, “Web Content Made Easy”.
It's aimed both at people who want to hire writers and at people who want to write their own articles.
As you know, the more keyword-rich articles you write, the more visitors your site is likely to receive.
However, for many affiliates, writing endless articles can be a big pain in the brain.
Gary describes the steps he takes, showing you different ways to come up with ideas and write articles quickly.
The book has been enthusiastically reviewed on our affiliate forum.
Here's one comment…
“The second book, Web Content Made Easy, is EXACTLY what you need if you are searching for more ideas on creating quality content for your site whether you are writing it yourself OR hiring it out. He gives a ton of tips for finding key phrases, which ones to target, how to plan and organize your articles, tips for short, medium and long articles, how to get ideas for articles, and on and on.”
I've read the book and I agree.
Gary can take one phrase and produce dozens or even hundreds of ideas for articles on it. He shows you how in “Web Content Made Easy”.
If you usually take several hours to write one article, you need this book.

3. Watch out for sneaky link partners
========================================
There's a new rel=”nofollow” attribute to watch out for when other sites are linking to you.
Here's an example link…
(a href=”https://www.yoursite.com/us.html” rel=”nofollow”)Us(/a)
(In the above example, I've changed the normal angle brackets to ordinary brackets to make sure it displays in your email software.)
If you use the rel=”nofollow” attribute, announced by Google and supported by Yahoo! and MSN, the link won't pass on PageRank or link popularity.
Here's what some search engine blogs say about it:
https://google.com/googleblog/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html
https://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000069.html
https://blogs.msdn.com/msnsearch
https://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/050118-204728
The “nofollow” attribute was introduced with blog spammers in mind – those people who post stupid “me too” comments on blogs simply to get a link back to their site.
Inevitably, the attribute is going to be used for other purposes.
Can't you just picture thousands of webmasters all over the planet adding “nofollow” attributes to their external links to “hoard” PageRank?
Google, what have you done?
The really weird thing about this decision is that Google is introducing something which makes it very easy for webmasters to break one of Google's own guidelines.
Google says in its guidelines…
“Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A … useful test is to ask, “Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?”
That guideline was always an utterly ridiculous bit of advice.
We design our sites in certain ways because we want to be found in search engines. Of course we'd build them differently if search engines didn't exist.
I wonder who'll be first to produce an ebook describing how to use rel=”nofollow” to hoard PageRank, directing it to your main selling pages?
Or perhaps someone will write a report telling us how to safely link a network of sites together, without being penalized for excessive crosslinking.
More importantly…
Beware of sites linking to you that use the new rel=”nofollow” attribute as a sneaky way of getting a link from you without returning the favor fairly.
If you engage in reciprocal linking, now it's more important than ever that you click on View/Source in Internet Explorer and check that the other site is giving you a straight link.
But what if you have dozens or hundreds or thousands of sites linking to you? Tracking all those links manually would be a huge task. Are you just going to shrug and say it's too hard?
You need software to speed up the job.
So the new rel=”nofollow” will make Optilink software even more popular.
Optilink enables you track the three things that are critically important in ranking highly in search engines: keyword density (on page keyword density and anchor text keyword density), link popularity, and link reputation.
It produces reports which show you why one site ranks higher than another.
But will Optilink show you which of your link “partners” are sneakily linking to you using rel=”nofollow”?
I asked Optlink's creator, Leslie Rhode, that today.
“I am in fact adding this to OptiLink, OptiSpider, and my Dynamic Linking ebook this week,” Leslie replied. “I hope to have all this done by Monday.”
