1. Join the new fight against click fraud
=========================================
By Jay Stockwell
founder of Click Sentinel
When a key representative of the world’s most profitable website sends out a dire warning, smart people listen.
Not long ago, Google’s Chief Financial Officer, George Reyes, said, “Click fraud is the biggest threat to the Internet economy … We are exposed to the risk of fraudulent clicks on our ads.”
This is scary stuff if you’re spending cash on pay per click (PPC) advertising. I don’t know about you, but the thought of thousands of people intentionally clicking on my ads to get rich sends shivers down my spine.
Click vendors such as Google are telling you that click fraud levels are relatively low, and their system is trapping 100% of it.
The problem is, their system is a black box. There’s no way for us to verify if any of these click vendors are doing a good job. And let’s face it, this is one of those rare cases in business where doing a bad job at something actually helps improve their bottom line.
At the other end of the spectrum you have the click fraud auditing companies. They’re telling you that the sky is falling and you could be losing up to 50% of your clicks to click fraud charlatans.
However, just like the PPC vendors, the propaganda they push is actually helping their bottom line as well. The more scared you are, the more money they’re set to make.
So is there a middle ground in this whole debate?
Well, that is exactly the question we asked ourselves when we shut down our paid click fraud auditing service nine months ago.
You see, we were providing only one piece of the puzzle. We began to understand that fighting click fraud is more than just good analytics. It’s as much about relationships and education as it is about the raw data.
We weren’t doing this with our existing service, so we shut it down so we could figure out how we could create this elusive “middle ground”.
Nine months later and after lots of hard work, we reckon we’ve come up with a solution that really does sit in the middle.
With our new solution…
* We GIVE you all the tools to track for click fraud yourself – free.
* We give you click fraud tracking software to do the actual tracking, as well as more software to help you see if you are really entitled to refunds.
* Most of all, we give you a community where you can openly talk about click fraud and collectively improve and extend the way we fight against it.
If you do any sort of PPC advertising there is now absolutely no reason for you to not be tracking for click fraud.
Using our newly developed software you can see if your PPC vendor’s black box is really working. All risk free.

2. Dramatic 40.7% increase in conversion rate
=============================================
MarketingExperiments.com has done an experiment which shows how a few changes to a landing page resulted in a 40.7% increase in the conversion rate.
You’d normally expect to pay for such valuable information, but there’s no fee. You don’t even have to provide an email address.
The report is called “Optimizing Landing Pages 2006”. You can find it here…

3. Getting rid of pesky DMOZ descriptions
=========================================
Google has an annoying habit of displaying bland, boring site descriptions from DMOZ.org in its search engine results pages instead of the descriptions WE write in our meta description tags.
Website owners have complained about this for ages. At last someone is listening, but it’s not Google – it’s MSN.
You can now add a special tag to your HTML to stop those DMOZ descriptions displaying in MSN search results.
Here’s how:

Hooray! Well done, MSN. Are you watching, Google?
Better still, instead of asking webmasters to add extra code to their sites, why not just stop using DMOZ descriptions?
It doesn’t make sense for search engines use descriptions edited by volunteers from a directory which is hopelessly understaffed and notoriously erratic in its quality control.

4. New, fast way to get links
=============================
This sounds really exciting.
I don’t usually tell you about products before they’re launched. I like to study a product carefully before I decide whether to recommend it.
A couple of hours ago, I heard about a new, incredibly fast way to get new links to your site. The product hasn’t been launched yet, and I haven’t seen it.
I’ve signed up to go on the early notification list.
I don’t see any harm in signing up to learn more.

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” – Thomas Edison.
