First we had the blog craze. Now, having one or a handful of blogs isn’t enough for many webmasters.
They’re creating blog empires.
I wrote about Jason Calcanis and his blog empire a while ago.
Darren Rowse of Australia, is another example. He runs a network of niche blogs.
Darren has just announced his AdSense earnings for August, and they’re impressive – $15,849.73.
Blog networks can receive massive traffic.
Jeremy Wright, co-founder of blog network b5media, reported that the network had its biggest traffic day on Monday – 23,000 pageviews.
That’s astounding for a network of sites which was launched only a few weeks ago.

Merchants often use upsells. They sell you one product and then while you’re in a buying mood they recommend a related product.
Two sales instead of one. Nice.
Read on… you can do this, too.
Last month, in newsletter #270, I tried a little experiment which worked beautifully.
Here’s how it happened.
I’d read Neil Shearing’s new book about new ways to generate revenue online, stuff the gurus have been doing quietly.
It’s a superb book, easy to understand, with lots of screenshots, but one thing bothered me about it. I thought some readers might be tempted to use the techniques to create low quality sites.
If you know me, you know I recommend we all aim for the long term. We need to build sites that are so good people will want to link to them.
So I suggested you add a little twist to Neil’s techniques.
I recommended you also get a stream of high quality articles created for you – and I happened to know just the place, Stefan Everaet’s top-notch articles. They really are good.
Whatever kind of sites you create, you can use Stefan’s articles.
You can rewrite them, adapt them, add to them. Stamp your own personality on them. This is much simpler than struggling over a totally blank slate.
Bingo! A neat affiliate upsell.

The results were spectacularly successful.

3. Having a whale of a time

(Personal stuff – feel free to skip.)
One of the advantages of staying in Coolangatta on Australia’s Gold Coast is that we can sometimes watch whales from our apartment.
Here’s a snippet from a letter Joanna wrote to a friend…
“We had a lovely experience yesterday – I looked out the window at just the right time to see a whale spouting, and we stood in our apartment and watched a couple of them having a wonderful frolic for about 20 minutes.
There were fins, tails and whole bodies leaping out of the water every couple of minutes. Later, on our sunset walk, we saw more – about four or five – breaching but they were too far away to see more than just a fin or tail and a spout of water. It’s still a thrill. Tourists pay big money to go out on boat trips to see what we can see for nothing.
“This is the time of year when the humpbacks are on their southern migration back to Antarctica after calving in the warmer waters up north, and they tend to stay and play awhile which is great for spectators. Yesterday was the closest we’ve seen them.”
What does this have to do with affiliate marketing? Joanna and I are here in this magical place because of affiliate marketing.
