I tells you 4 things that make up about 90% of the things that cause changes in search engine rankings. I subscribed to their RSS feed and thought this article in particular was very useful (and simple, plus the illustration make you laugh).
Anyway . . . I hope it helps. I know it helped some of the OneCall affiliates I sent it to.
Take care . . . _________________ David Payne

Good post David. I pulled this sentence out of the article....
"A page with a phenomenal amount of global link power, even if the sources aren't particularly relevant and the keywords are barely used, can still rank remarkably well in Google & Yahoo!"
I have always gone for backlinks anyway I could get them and this explains why. _________________ Jeff Schuman

I think as internet marketers and those who rely on the search engines (myself included) begin to pick up indexed pages, It is important to remember that you need a reason to have your readers return. Allan has done a great job of this. While I am sure this site gets a ton of SE traffic, Many of us just have a bookmark to the site.
If you offer true and continuious value to the people who visit, your site will grow. Along with that growth will come the outside links.
I do not believe that creating posts with shameless site promotion is necessarily the way to go in achieving SE rank.
I was in the game many years ago, and the money I made went into stupid ventures like waterfront Florida Property. There is money to be made on the net, but like it says in the last adsense conference video: (don't try to rush it)
SEO is a worthy goal (I strive to accomplish that on every site I build) But the true measure of the quality of a site is weather people willingly and on their own terms will link to your site or put it in their favorites and tell their friends about it. Any one of us could be "fired" by the search engines at any time.
