hello everyone!

I'm trying to beef up our in-house affiliate programs by creating affiliate links. Which one should I focus more -- image links or text links? My aim is for affiliates to attract more customers and maximize their commissions.

Text links, because you can weave them into you content, with that you are preselling.

Then perhaps I'll have to concentrate more on creating text links for our affiliates.

Will text links also help the merchants?

Create both text links and image links.
Both have their own advantages.

However, I prefer text links because I think visitors tend to click on them more than image links.

The simpler the code the better. And if you allow webmasters to write their own text within your stated guidelines than that is better as well. Webmasters need to be able to fit your program to their adspace.

I would probably recommend text links but I have to ask: Which kinds of links result in the most conversions per 1000 impressions? If you don't know the answer you have a problem in my opinion.

I think an affiliate manager should track conversion for every ad type and tell affiliates which ad types perform the best.

Both the text links and image links have their own pros and cons. Most of the web masters are interested in text links as the image links load at a slower rate. But the image links are appealing.

We (for example) only do text links right now. I believe that a good affiliate should have enough knowledge to make an image link from a text link and a picture, anyway. And statistically speaking we never had a good selling affiliate asking for image links.

What do you think? Investing in a image link feature pays dividends in:
-increasing sales
-attracting good affiliates

or it's just a way to do things because people are used to have it like that?

Text links weaved into your site's content seem to work better. Your visitors are less likely to view them as blatant advertisements. Opening them up for the click through.

another vote for text links, but make sure you include deep linking that enables your affiliates to target and promote a specific product. One of the biggest UK sites for my target market (headphones) only allows you to go to the main page, and it's a pain in the backside. I really want to promote them more, and i would if i could get links to specific products.

i used to say 'then click to this page' like this

but it's such a pain, so i just don't bother promoting them anymore. Don't make the same mistake.

I have a good experience with image links.
Not that text links are not good, but this is just my experience.

I would say concentrate on text links but make some image links available (why close the door on this marketing path?)
