I've been looking for ways in which to promote my sites and came across 'email marketing'. There seem to be a number of companies offering their services to promote your site through their own opt in lists.
I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this method of site promotion?
Let me know if you have ever tried using such a company and what the results were like?

Hi Richie P,
Email marketing is the best way to promote your product. But if you depend upon third party services to send your offers you will definitely lose your money. If that rented list is responsive why can't they send there own offers instead of sending your ads for peanuts. I hope you have understood what i am trying to say. So if you want to make real money for life time build your own responsive list.

Thanks for the advice Dr.Eswararamanan, i didn't really think about it like that.
The problem is that in-order to build my own list I still have to get people to my site initially for them to leave their email address??

Yes, exactly.
But you can combine these two approaches, and that's already the best thing to use such services, to make ads for your site, where they should opt in to your own list!
When you make good ads, then it can work very good. You need the right lists also. Many successful marketers do it this way. Do your homework before and learn how to write a good ad for email lists. There are ebooks or free reports about it.
You also should test different lists, and then advertise only where you got the best results.

Email marketing alone wouldn't yield you any good result. You may try it with other methods here.
Free methods:
Submission to SE's and directories
Email campaign
Forums, blogs and board postings to targetted audience
Social Bookmarking
Offline campaigns
Etc. etc.
Premium ways: (Should require a budget)
Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Targetted Link backs
SEO
Ad spaces
Etc. Etc.
Just always keep in mind that patience is a virtue in our industry. Hope my suggestions help out.

I believe no other promotional methods can be as powerful as having active JV partners and super affiliates promoting your product for you.
This is the ultimate leverage and passive income system. The key to this is to build relationships and give first before asking anything.

Try submitting press releases to different sites and see the difference. The power of words will surely bring in traffic to your site. I think you have formally launched your site, which is still unknown to the mass. Go to people, distribute press releases and tell them the advantages of visiting to your site. There are many posts in various forums, which confirm that submitting press release generates good volume of traffic.
