- sorry for my bad english...
Hi guys,
About links, why are the link directories in top for many keywords in google (ex; internet dating, online dating, dating services)
Is this the way to go - thousand s of links?
I have seen alot of #1 listings in google and the new
update didn't do squat about their ranks? Does this mean
that new sites, with zero links cannot get into the top 5/10
on the SE's?
- Does this mean that links, any links and many
will get you to the top!?
thank's

Links in are great, but you need to be somewhat careful in that all your links in do not come from bad neighborhoods (search forum for "bad neighborhood" or "link exchange" "reciprocal link" for more info)
Links out help establish your site as a "hub" which some SE's place extra relevance when ranking your links and site. However, you have to be extra careful on links out ... you don't want to link to even one bad neighborhood.
Multiple link pages, directory type, as you describe are, for the most part, not a good idea, especially because it can be difficult to get decent rankings unless you offer very good content within the directory itself. You have to take some of the results on Google with a grain of salt due to the extreme shakeup caused by the latest big dance ... called "Florida." You can search the web, this forum, and other forums for more information on Google Florida Update.
Remember also, with Google, links into your site do help your ranking to a large degree, and Google also likes to see hub sites (also known as Authority Sites), so that may account for some of the results you see. But it is more likely they are there due to backlinks (links in) than because they have thousands of links going out.

No they cannot unless the niche has absolutely no competition, and even then you may not get listed until you have some links in.

Depends on how competitive the niche is. I was doing research last night and found several potential niches where sites were in the top 10 with 1-5 links in, and one had a #1 with 0 links in. Keep in mind though, if you are using the google toolbar to determine links in that it only shows you links from pages with a page rank of 4 or greater. So, even if it shows no links in there could still be hundreds of links in, they just have lower page rank. |

If you are worried about your external linking structures being reverse-engineered, might this be a way of helping you slip under the radar?
Just a thought,
