hi all
i have signed up with hostgator, but just want to know from those of you who use hostgator - did you use the fantastico page for website templates, content management, etc? otherwise is there a better place to get them from, or is it just a matter of searching around on the net to find one that you like?
i'm setting up a baby/parenting website, and this is my first website so any help will be appreciated.

Within fantastico, you should be able to install wordpress, which is a very popular blog platform, in a matter of one or two clicks.

Some people rather like to set up things manually, using fantasico is easier but has disadvantages too.
One disadvantage is, that you don't always have the latest version of Wordpress when you install it with fantastico, so it could be a security risk.
I think that was it what I read about so maybe that's the only disadvantage. Or it's more about modifying or add ons? I don't remember well, better research yourself.

Keep in mind that while Fantastico makes script installation easy, that's it.
Once you rely on it, you may end up needing help later that will not be present. I have not met a host yet the will help when the database goes south. They say they will restore your back up sometimes but figuring out what happened is up to you.
So it's a double edged sword. You could encounter problems down the road.
Work with technology you can support or are willing to outsource to people (This means by help) when needed.

Hey,
Well I am with HostGator myself and I absolutely love them, I just got done making a bunch of videos on Cpanel hosting for people having troubles with hosting and cpanel and we have an array of very good tutorials that may be of use to you, not sure, but I do one on Fantastico and as previously mentioned, Fantastico is a very simple script installer that will install the most popular scripts online with only a few clicks of the mouse.
