Has anyone ever bought expired domain name traffic?

They say it gets good clickthrough rates and can be targetted acording to language, topic, and location, so it sounds good but has anyone tried it and compared it to a PPC campaign?

Are there any case studies on the topic?

Cheers,
Graeme

Graeme, can you explain what you mean in more detail?

Sorry for the confusion,
Charlie.

Sites such as: http://www.websitetrafficgenerations.com
offer to sell traffic to you that is sourced from expired domain names. Rates are from about $3.70 per thousand visitors and and can be targeted to categories.

It seems like a good deal and better value than paying per click through the search engines.

From what I have heard, you are pretty much wasting your money as the traffic isn't very targeted. You would be better off investing in targeted keywords at the PPCs. But, if you can get 1000 searches for $3.70, buy a 1000 and see what happens. You would only lose $3.70. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it. Once I bought 10,000 visitors for about $30. It was money well wasted.

I have no experience of this and I haven't looked at the company you mention, but it's an interesting idea. It all comes down to just how good the traffic really is.

I agree that many of the traffic buying schemes are a total waste of money, but I haven't tried anything quite like this sounds. It's pretty much impossible to know without testing.

Just my opinion,
Charlie.

I just visited the site in question, and as I figured, the traffic isn't very targeted. Well, it is targeted, but targeted to broad categories. For example, one of the categories is "Hobbies". If you have a hobby site on radio control cars you may be getting visitors looking for scrapbooking. That does you no good.

Hi Graeme,

Maayan from TTMachine here,

If they had this great traffic, why these domains are expired?

Just a point for thinking

It's also easy to waste money in the ppc's in a hurry if you are not very careful.

I'm going to review the site you listed and see how that works...interesting idea.

If you've run a campaign since this post, please contact me through my forum email and let me know how you did...

Warm regards,

Stone Evans

I think it is possible to make money this way if the sites are ranking well in Google. A site might have good traffic but the marketing on the site might be poor- which you could improve on and cash in on the traffic. I have read about using this technique and it could work if you pick the right one.

I know one of internet expert who has done really well this way- sorry I have forgotton his name. I think he is now finding expired domains and selling them.

I wouldn't pay someone for it. I'd use a service like this: expiredtraffic.com

Good luck in your decision!
