I think it depends on the person. For some people (not me either), the money is enough to invoke passion. These tend to be more the sort of "driven" individuals who would make money somehow anyway.

Ironically, I have had some success promoting marketing products that are not flavour of the month anymore (even though they once were). These have proved to convert well, but you have to make sure they are not outdated. This narrows it down a lot.
You also need to think of imaginative ways to promote them cheaply.

This is another one that depends on the person, I think. I am one of the people who tend to get bogged down in analysis, and I'm not alone.
You have to strike a balance. Sadly, I think your advice is most likely to be heeded by the very people who are most at risk from procrastination and ignored by the ones who would benefit most.
[How's that for reverse psychology? ]

You can make money with affiliate programs in many different ways. I own successful sites that range all the way from a mere one page, to small, to very large.
Having a large site does have definite advantages. If you put in a lot of work, you can build a high quality site, get known, build a reputation and end up with thousands of sites linking to you - voluntarily. That puts you in a very sound position with lots of free traffic coming from many different directions.
However, for someone starting out that's a daunting proposal. It takes an enormous amount of work, and a lot of determination to build an affiliate-driven business that way. Many are likely to begin and give up.
Instead, if you start by creating a small site with a tight focus aiming to be the best you can possibly be in one small niche, you have an excellent chance of reasonably quick - say three to six months - success.
I think it's hugely important to start with achieveable goals. New affiliates need to see money coming in, need to see checks in the mail, to prove to themselves that it really is possible to earn useful money online.

I was reminded of that again on Saturday, when my 3 year old nephew came round to play. He's into everything, but if you push him too hard he loses heart quickly.
He seems to respond best when you balance challenge with accomplishment. Not enough of either and he's hell's own work. (It's a family thing.)

Back with affiliate marketing, although I'm not driven in the conventional sense, I do still get a great deal of satisfaction out of just completing a web page.
Although I agree with Allan, I think it's important to monitor what you are actually achieving even if you aren't making money yet. If you don't review your minor achievements from time to time, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you aren't getting anywhere.
You need to have a way of keeping on going until things click.
Hope this helps,

Hey to all -
You and the great folks from 3 other popular forums were so generous with your comments, suggestions, and thoughts about the current state of affairs concerning the challenges of affiliate programs successes...
... my intended article grew into a 100-page ebook in about 36 hours. So we went from scratch to finished product in about 48 hours. I invested about 10 hours or so and assembled all the posts by which forum they came from. Now, as a contributor, you have a product with your name in it to give away, if you want one.
If anyone wants a copy of the free ebook, just shoot me an email at Chip@FirstContactSecrets.com, and I'm happy to email you a copy.
God Bless you, and Happy Holidays -

Thanks very much.

I have certainly learnt a great deal myself, too. Besides, I love "agreeing to disagree" and this place gives me plenty of opportunity!
As I've said before, I am not a great fan of forums in general, but this is a special case.
Same to you!
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
