Anybody here using blogs as the main SEO strategy?
For MSN I heard it's easy to rank high using blog but not sure with goog

I was doing the blog thing strong for a while before I just ran out of hours in the day to keep up. It was a very good source of traffic for me. One problem I encountered was an EXCESSIVE amount of spam. So much in fact that I dont even bother with user comments any more, nor keep up with the blog.

Avalon, Does this mean you were getting decent traffic but you weren't generating sufficient sales to keep you interested? That the blog wasn't the best use of your time?

To get indexed by search engines, whatever blogs need income links from other websites. Without income links, any blogs never get indexed by search engines.

Not only MSN but Google too. Got a site indexed shortly than it took a traditional site.

blog is a web site at the end, but the best thing that it is more easy to promote blog than static web site.
do not forget you must try different ways to get traffic and links. even if your blog did not rank well you can get quality traffic if you give your blog time, effort and quality traffic.
there are many ways to promote your web blog such as blogs directory, submit articles to articles directories, mybloglog, social networking,...

Search Engines especially Google gives higher preference to those websites which update their content on regular basis. This is the reason why several forums/blogs are ranking on top of both Google,Yahoo, and several other search engines.
These Search Engines regularly go hunting for quality websites with useful content. If you add a "QUALITY" blog or forum to your website then surely you will see an increase in your search engine rankings and PR(Page Rank).
Add a Blog/Forum to your site, and Google, Yahoo Search Engines will start wagging their tail

I have found a good blog post can get ranked very quickly if it is well written, contains basic seo principles, and is bookmarked to several of the top social directories. I using OnlyWire.com and manually submit to Stumbleupon, Digg, Propeller and a few others.
This whole process can be done in less than an hour and anyone serious about their business can do that at least 2 times per week. It has proven to be time well spent for me anyway.

Not necessarily. this definitely helps though, but you can get indexed by simply using basic SEO techniques like using good keywords with low competing sites and including those keywords in your posts titles, blog title, anchor tags, etc. Also making sure your blog is being pinged will alert the search engine spiders that you have updated your blog (most blogs naturally do this for you anyway these days.) Also a good service to feed your blog to FeedBurner.

Hi,
Blogs do help us get traffic to the site by getting back-links. Site get indexed in MSN easily when using blogs for our site, but according to the google parameters, more the traffic and more the quality back-links to the site more are the chances of getting indexed in the search engines.

Regardless of whether you have a blog or website... SEO is only part of the battle. I would concentrate on high-quality content while using keywords in the title and body. But it should be written for humans.
I've been leaning to blogs lately... they seemed to get indexed faster and are easier to promote.
To post consistently I combine high-quality linkbait posts, quick utility posts (I use software to make it easier) and presell posts to make some money.
Then I spend time off-blog driving traffic.
Posting to other blogs.
Trackbacks.
Article marketing.
Social marketing.
SEO will only take you so far. You need to drive traffic from off site as well.
