Hi from New Zealand
I have been learning about affiliate marketing for some time now and spent many hundreds, cough cough, maybe a lot more, on e books etc and I have now gotten into information overload. I comprehend most of it but it just all seems so daunting. Can I clear the fog and chunk this stuff down?

The only way to stop information overload is to STOP ... pick one ebook that makes sense to you, that you feel you can follow, and just do it.

If you don't have one you are comfortable following, then throw some ideas out on this forum for us to help you with, but GET STARTED!

Hello Hunty,

I would first decide what you're going to "focus" on first. Whether it's making
pages SE friendly, working on AdWords or just promoting.

Then take the information that you've read/learned, understand well and
are comfortable with the most and use it on your selected "focus".

Find a good pace for yourself and try not to push it, you may end up
getting burned out. Sad

Once that "focus" has been completed select a new one.

Just take small steps at a time. You will more than likely never use all of
the information you have, BUT it's always good to have the reference when
you need it.... heck, you may even forget some of it by the time you start
working on your next project.

You can then get a better understanding on the other areas when ever
you have the time.

The main point is proper focus, without it you'll end up like me! Shocked

Seriously, focus is a big problem for most people...
A lot of us are guilty of it.

Here's to your success, good luck!

I think information overload is more a state of mind rather than related to how much info you actually have. If you think you've got enough information, I think you have too, if you see what I mean.

I agree with the others. You have got enough "second opinions" by now, so choose a mentor whose style you like, and follow their philosophy with a bit of your personality mixed in.

You will never get the whole picture or all the secrets, no matter how much info you collect. Better to just model your business on someone else's (slightly imperfect) success, than keep looking for the perfect business.

Just my view,
Charlie.

This article from a recent issue of my newletter sort of gives you the secret:

A Success Secret That You Already Knew!
Copyright 2003 by Willie Crawford

Having spent nearly 35 years studying successful people,
and what makes them different, I've discovered the answer
is - suprisingly little. However, one of the factors that
jumps out at me more than any other is the fact that the
ultra-successful are very proactive. This is a success
trait that you can very easily adopt if you don't already
have it!

The ultra-successful do their research, make detailed
plans, and then take action. Too many others never take
action and suffer from "paralysis-by-analysis." They
are so afraid of making a mistake that they never take
action. They never implement any of their big plans.

Let me let you in on a little secret... most of the very
successful people that I know have made big mistakes.
However, their mistakes don't out weight their big
successes. My coach teaches that it's not uncommon to
have two major failures before having that big success.
In the process of making mistakes, we learn how to succeed.
So, my coach teaches that you should "fail fast." That
way you get the failures out of the way and clear the
way for success.

Failures are not inevitable, they are just something
that you do not need to fear! The way that you avoid
the failures is by learning from the mistakes of others.
Get someone who is succeeding at doing what you want to
do to mentor or coach you. Also, network with people
with similar goals and bounce your ideas off of them.
Network and feed off of the network's synergy!

When we look at all of the "big dreamers" around us,
it's easy to see that many people who know exactly
what needs to be done, never do it! Instead they
procrastinate until it's too late. That's the
problem. That also reveals the solution. Succeeding
is often just a matter of being proactive - of
taking action.

If you need evidence of the truth in what I've
revealed to you, just consider all of the ebooks,
courses, and seminars you have digested. Many of
the people I know have literally hundreds of ebooks
and files on their computers that they collected
while seeking the silver bullet. Each of these
products did reveal some useful gem, but not the
BIG one. So they never implemented what they
learned and continue looking.

Success in building an online business isn't generally
about earth shattering insider information. It's
about utilizing all of the little gems revealed to you
every day. Just as a house isn't enclosed by one large
brick, but by many bricks stacked up, success is often
doing a lot of little things right!

As this year draws to a close, why not make your New
Year's Resolution be to simply become more proactive.
This can be a hard thing to do, but nothing changes
until you do. Nothing happens until you take action.
That's the whole key to moving forward... towards
your big goal. The thing is that you alread knew
everything that I just told you. Now it's just a
matter of implementing "A Success Secret That You
Already Knew!"

Willie Crawford has been teaching others how to build an
on-line business since late 1996. Frequently featured in
radio, magazine and newspaper articles and interviews, Willie
teaches the average guy what the top marketers are doing but
seldom talking about. For example, Willie demonstrates the
power of automated residual income through his system at:

Willie,

I can certainly associate with much of what you said there. Thankfully the worst is now well and truly over, but it brought back memories! Wink

Besides, who ever really recognises the positive lessons in those failures?

I struggled with this one. I spent years working in a job where we went out of our way to share knowledge very selectively (and with good reason), but when I started marketing I found I was too scared to talk about my ideas for fear of them being stolen by others.

Insecurity, vanity or something else - that held me back.

That's the cruel irony of it all. I haven't found "the big one" yet either.

The problem is, marketers often devise products to appeal in this way. SBI! is little different from the slimiest get rich quick con, in this regard.

Irrespective of the merits of the products, many are targeted at lazy ignorant dreamers, and they sell as a result.

Although important to have big ambitions, I think it's very important to aim low, over deliver (regarding your own expectations) and keep stepping up and repeating.

That way success ceases to be some elusive nirvana, but simply a way of life.

Thank goodness for the occasional failure to keep it all in perspective! Wink

Cheers,
Charlie.

P.S. If you are interested, there is another thread somewhere that talks about "fear of success". If you liked Willie's post, it's worth doing a search for that, too.
