Post subject: How is Cheap-Computers-Guide.com doing after the Florida Upd
|

Hi Allan or Rupert,
I was just curious how your site is doing after the big update. I read your report and it said you were ranked number 1 for awhile on the term "cheap computers". Now I look and it is at 12 or something. Are you guys taking in steps to get it back into the top 10?
Thanks,

Yes, after 15 months being No.1 on Google for "cheap computers", it is now No.12. Some other phrases are still doing OK.
Our traffic has about halved. Here are the daily average visits:
October 1189
November 988
Dec (so far) 566
Our page numbers viewed - daily averages:
October 2408
November 2061
Dec (so far) 1034
So I suppose that means over-all income will be halved, or worse, if this continues.
It's not surprising that cheap-computers-guide.com eventually lost its top spot, because it had only a small number of links to it. What surprised me was that did so well for so long.
Rupert is working on trying to attract more high quality links to the site. That's not an easy task.
We'll probably also look at adding more pages. Google likes large sites, and adding pages increases the number of phrases, the number of ways people can find the site.
For example, on Rupert's DJ site, he has lost a good ranking for "dj equipment" but is still No.1 at Google for "dj tips".
We're not panicking. We have plenty of hooks in the affiliate waters.
Also, I'm sure there will be many more Google algorithm changes. We don't want to rush into making lots of changes that prove unnecessary.
For a good analysis of what's happening at Google I recommend Stephen Maheny's Planet Ocean. His team does nothing but concentrate on what the search engines are doing and they produce a top-notch ebook, updated monthly, and a must-read newsletter - http://www.searchenginehelp.com
Hope that helps. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Quick update...
A few hours ago, we had jumped from No.12 to No.5 for a search for "cheap computers" (without the quotes) and now we're No.3.
I think we need to keep watching Google for a while before taking any major decisions.

Allan,
Good advice... don't panic. Adding more content is the way I'm "fighting back" with no change in building style. _________________ Gary

I am sure Google will continue to fine tune their filters and things will tend back closer to as they were before (in the main) before too long.
I think it was the timing of these changes as much as the changes themselves that caused so much upheaval in some circles...
As you don't rely on Xmas to make all your profits for the next year, there should be no need to rush into changes - certainly not with main pages.
Just my opinion,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Awesome,
I see it is in Number 3 position now, that is good news. I guess I would keep adding content, and getting links too, as those methods are tried and tested to work. And as we can now see, google still hasn't sorted the sites out, (ie: spot 12- spot 3).
Good Luck,

Alan and Rupert,
I just wanted to say I was extremely impressed with http://www.cheap-computers-guide.com from the standpoint of:
1. The amount of useful content
2. The way it is presented so that it is easy and fun to read.
I owned a retail computer store for 20+ years and had written my own books similar to yours, but it was never that easy to read or as much fun.
I can see why it is ranked so high.....
1. Content, content, content.
2. Educational
3. Hard work in search engines
4. I believe you're working with the sitebuildit program, right?
Just wanted to say this is a the business model to follow.
Job well done.
