I love to write so it does not come burdensome to me. The hardest part is submitting to each directory manually. I also think that it takes time to see results when you are writing articles to draw traffic to your site. You have to be patient. Ezinearticles.com is a good place to start as well as isnare.com. Try to write at least two articles per week if you can and submit them to at least 10 good article directories. Have fun writing!!

Another nice thing about a good article is it can bring you traffic for years. Search engines will pick up your article from a directory and rank it high for the specific keyword you are writing about. This can get archived and hold it's position for years. This has happened to me by Google many times over. If you have a good bio box with your website address in it you can get traffic over and over from just one good article.

I was submitting my articles to hundreds of directories with article marketer and Isnare, and it is interesting to see that I've had the same results submitting only to the top article directories... Between 5 and 10 sites only.

I believe that. I've always thought a person would be better off submitting to directories with higher page rank according to Google.

Exactly! I am not going to submit to hundreds anymore.
The thing now is not to get links from everywhere, but get useful content (not keyword stuffinf, but LSI and Silo style) and some links from authority sites.

Search engines will not only pick up your article from article directories...but message forums as well.  (For the forums that allow article submissions of course). |

It is all timing. I know Google likes ezinearticles.com. Once you have achieved Platinum author status with them they will post your articles on their home the same day they approve it and you have a chance to get traffic from that.
I'm sure that is true with many top article directories. Look for ones with a high page rank like a PR5 or PR6 or PR7 and you can be pretty sure they are getting spidered quickly and almost everyday.
The other thing is your articles could be picked up by other webmasters, bloggers, and ezine publishers and you could get almost immediate traffic from that. As your articles take on a viral effect you can get long term traffic as well which is better than a one time spike.

If you prefer using a software for articles distribution (which should be your choice at some stage), I personally think that the best out there come down to 4 specific softwares, which you have to pick from the one that suits you most.
