Hi,

I've recently launched an affiliate program as a Clickbank merchant. For tracking purposes, I am asking affiliates to link to a special URL on my domain (such as www.mydomain.com/in.php?affiliate_id) instead of the normal Clickbank hoplink URL. Of course, the script on my domain forwards to the proper Clickbank hoplink.

I have already had one affilaite contact me and let me know he would not promote my program unless he could link directly to the clickbank hoplink (which I am allowing him to do)

My question is -- are there a lot of affiliates who feel this way about custom links like this? Would you refuse to run a certain affiliate program if it didn't link directly to the clickbank hoplink?

Thanks for your opinions on this matter.

Joe

I think the biggest concern affiliates would have would be that you could change the direction of the url at any time. Unless they test it regularly to be sure the click registers, they won't know if you did or not. If the link goes thru Clickbank via the hoplink, then they at least know they are getting credit if the viewer buys, all else being equal.

For me, this introduces issues usually reserved for independent affiliate programs...

You would need to resassure me that I could trust you to handle the tracking properly.

If you could, I wouldn't have any problem with this, as I wouldn't with any true independent program. But I know others are nervous of independent programs...

People are often worried about payment, but the way I look at it, if the sales aren't tracked (or in your case forwarded) properly, there won't be any commissions to be paid anyway.

All the best,
Charlie.
