Post subject: Affilate link cloaking
|
|
|
Does anyone have any suggestions for free software or methods for cloaking affiliate links please? I would prefer a solution that allowed me to cloak the links myself while designing the site, rather than have to upload pages somewhere.
Thanks! |

Do a search on the forum for affiliate link cloaking and you should come up with a few threads to help you out.

if you use a third party service (whether it's free or not) like shrinkmylink and their server is down, your links don't work. So better use a solution on your own server!

You are absolutely right, therefor I will use the below HTML code and redirect the link through my server.
I can even go one step further by protecting my link with a software called
"Web Lock Pro"
Here is the code
<html><head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;
url=http://www.your-link-to-promote.com">
</head></html>
Try it it's great

Note of warning: Refresh redirects cause serious problems with Google.

I definitely agree that this should be done locally and not through a remote server for the reasons mentioned.
Is there a way to do this with Javascript?
Regards. |

Debs, what kind of problems are that. I have many sites where the redirects sites actually rank high in google, bringing the visitors straight to the merchant.
But I have heard before this was not smart way, I just don'd know why

Google won't index the page with the redirect but will follow the link and index where it goes. If you are sending them to merchants then I wouldn't think it would matter so long as the other pages on your site rank well to pull them in. _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

Got your point Debs
I have actually stopped using this method on my new sites and use JavaScript Links instead to not loose any page rank (even if it does not seem to matter that much latly).
Rather want to get people into my site and send them to affiliates with my kind words in the pocket
Thanks for the advise

As Debs pointed out, there have been various threads covering the pros and cons of various redirection methods - meta refresh, client side javascript, server side PHP or CGI and .htaccess server redirects of various kinds.
Almost all of the methods are very SE unfriendly.
There are also various threads covering affiliate cloaking software - most of which I think is a waste of money.
Do a search, as it's all been covered in detaiil before.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Hi. Armand Morin gives his affilliates a link cloaker free. You can check it out at this link.Http://www.the-info-bay.com/cover.html
You can sign up free. You can use the link cloaker free even if you dont want to promote his products.
It might be worth looking at.
