I have been running adsense on a tech related site and to say it isn?t working is an understatement

I once read that these types of sites are bad for conversions. Reason being is the target audience is too savvy for clicking ads.

Through great pains I have found this to be true.

Besides adsense what other types of advertising works well for sites dealing with technology?

I've read this theory, too, but I also know of people with totally tech content sites that make vast sums from Adsense.

I don't know how much experimentation you've done (with Adsense formats, for example), but I'd be wary of jumping to any conclusions too soon...

For example, if Adsense isn't working because "the audience is too savvy for clicking ads", why would other ads work better?

Are there affiliate programs available to you? If yes, have you tried weaving in text ads in your copy?

I don't know if you feel inclined to share numbers or more details as to formats, but I suspect there are other factors at work.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.

Perhaps the problem is that your content is more interesting than the ads.

Charlie's tip about weaving affiliate links into your copy is good idea. A really effective way to do it is by writing reviews of products, telling the good and the bad, so that people trust your opinion.

Even better are case studies which give specific details, preferably using graphics and screenshots, describing how a product has helped you.

It takes time to do this stuff, but a good case study can generate revenue for years so it's worth doing.

Not sure what your readers are interested in? You could try doing a survey using SurveyMonkey.com to find out.

Thanks for these ideas,

The site in question is in my sig. I have considered other ad formats and will do some research as what might work for the open source community.

I checked and didn?t find many relevant affiliate programs for the sites content.

I have had an upward trend and am getting between 100-125 visitors a day and growing. Unfortunately none seem to be converting (less than 1%). This is out of whack on my other sites where I am seeing 7-10%, on average, conversion.

The site in question might require a different approach.
