I posted the same question over on the SEO forum, but I'm also interested in the "and" factor from an AdSense perspective.

Does anyone know if the word "and" in a domain name is a particular advantage or disadvantage from the standpoint of getting good relevant AdSense ads?

For example,

flower-wholesalers-retailers.com

vs.

flower-wholesalers-and-retailers.com

Thanks,
Bobby

"And" is considered a stop word by SE's ... basically it is ignored ... it would seem to me the Adsense Mediabot would treat it the same as the basic Googlebot indexing spider.

The exception would be if the Adwords advertiser set up strict matching on their advertising terms, then stop words wouldn't be ignored, and would be searched. (It's been a long time since I looked into this ... correct me if I am wrong please).

I am certainly no expert on Adsense, but this is how I understand it works generally, so I'm 99% sure you're right here.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Thanks for the responses. Here's a related question.

Does a search engine spider/bot see a word on a page the same if it is plain text as opposed to being a hyperlink?

Thanks,
Bobby

Hello again Bobby.

In a word - no.

They also recognise bold, italics and headings amongst other things. In other words, the spiders can "read" html tags - but not client-side scripts.

You might like to take a look at Planet Ocean's book if you're serious.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.
