I wanted to do a dvd-films site, but after sitting down and analyzing the concept, its pretty hard to get an interesting site that offers something that the big boys hasn't got.

So far my ideas are placing reviews, blogs, news and some entertainment articles. And to keep up to date, I have to update the site every time some new dvd shows up. I think its just too much work for the return Im planning on this.

Any thoughts? Actually my boss already bought the domain for this and its pretty vague.

I think you should consentrate on certain genre of a movies - sci-fi, romance, comedy, whatever appeals to you most. If you want cover the whole thing, it's probably gonna be just too big, 'cause there are new dvds popping out each and every day, so for keeping track with all of them you're gonna need a whole team I guess. Also every genre has its fans, so when you pick a certain genre and build a proper site on that, it might as well become their site of choice.

I totally agree with Rene.

You need to get specific here, or you're virtually doomed. I bet there are many good sub niches around, though, if you drill down.

Cheers,
Charlie.

You could even go so far and build a site around just one actor.
This lets you create content like biographie, filmograpfie, actor in the news and much much more.

If you need more information about doing research and finding your niche, have a download of the Affiliatemastercourse (PDF for MAC and PC)
Good luck

You guys are right. The domain is movie-films.com or movies-films.com. I think I will make sub genre with a subdomain: horror.movies-films.com, or something like that.

onlineleben, I've been reading the Affiliate Master's Course since last week but Im still on the second section. Have to re-plan and re-think what I was doing before moving on whenever I read a particularly good idea. Its been a great help for planning future sites.

But I have one site that's earning some decent cash right now, its a sports site and I get a sale almost everyday now. Got to wait for the checks though.

I just want to say that this Affiliate thing is really working! Got to do a lot more sites, its almost limitless how much you can earn, since the world became one Market.

Anyway, thanks for the help, really appreciate it Wink

The world's always been one market, in a sense. I think it's more a question of the historical trading patterns of the country you are from, but I know what you mean about the ease of reaching the market.

I think this is one of the big paradoxes for me...

Certainly it's much easier to reach "foreigners" now - in fact most of my "customers" are foreigners, though, statistically, most of yours probably aren't, if you see what I mean. Wink

Seriously, though, you could say certain information products are suitable for the whole English speaking world (say), but with hard goods, distribution channels are still run largely along national lines, no matter how many international leads you have.

In other words, the American market still has to me number one for most affiliates (no matter where they are based), since that is where most of the traffic will come from.

For example, if Rupert's cheap computers site had an affiliate program that only delivered to New Zealand addresses, the majority of his traffic would be worthless.

Cheers,
Charlie.
