i have an adsense ad that i've listed with the keyword phrase that im targeting in the title. When i listed the same ad without the keywork in the title it went up in listings. Any ideas why that was so?

Jim -

At the risk of beating a dead horse here, without specific numbers as to which version pulled the best, and additional numbers using your control(s) versus your new tests, this is almost impossible to answer.

Perhaps people thought your headline was crummy, but your idea was great. Without more data ... it's just a guess. Keep testing, and compare the results of all of your tests ... and always use whatever converts the best (of course.)

God Bless you, and Happy Holidays -

Usually having the keyword in the title of the ad pulls the searching person not only visually (the keyword is bolded), but also tells him/her that the site behind the ad is probably very specific regarding to the keyword searched.
Result: ads with keyword in title usually givbe better CTR
Exception: Your title makes no sense. In this case an other, well thought out title may pull better.

Advice: try your ad with different titles in one adgroup. Then you will see what brings in the most visitors.
