Post subject: eBook writers: Your own PDF Generator-For free!!
|
|
|
Just came to think about it- I mentioned in another post that I had found a free PDF Generator. Well, I have got lots of information and help in this forum:
It's payback time !
Here is your own free CutePDF Printer (no affiliate stuff here :
http://download.com.com/3302-6675_4-10220039.html
You may want to visit www.download.com more often, it's a good source for much stuff.
Anyway, CutePDF works like this: It installs itself as a printer driver. Open your document (I have tested both .doc and .html), select Print and then: Select CutePDF Printer as your printer. Specify file name you want for the finshed PDF-document, and there you go: Within seconds you have a .pdf file you can open in Acrobat. Just remeber one thing: Before you press the Print button, be sure to you have checked 'print from back to front', in order to get the sorting of pages correct.
As far as I can see from my documents, there's absolutely no hassle. But DO have your virus system on! I shall not be to blame
Anyway, I can't believe there's bad stuff at this website, it's to popular. |

| The difference between them, as I kow it: Pdf995 puts a commercial for themselves on each page until you buy the full version; CutePDF doesn't do any of those tricks; it just delivers good PDF. But anyway, that's for you to check out. |

You mentioned in another thread that you think .exe is much better than PDF because it's more versatile (or words to that effect). Most people seemed to disagree.
I think this might be because you are using pretty basic (though cheap) PDF creation tools that don't offer the full PDF features.
Just a thought,

| Maybe, Charlie, I,m still investigating. But many of the ebooks are made with HTlM compilers giving .exe versions. So far I think I'll let the customer choose. |

One potential problem with the .exe format is that it is Windows only. That means you'll miss all the Macintosh and many of the Unix/Linux users out there (yes, most Unix/Linux users have Windows installed as well, but many seem to be very reluctant to use it). It's hard to say how important that issue is. _________________ Frank Nordberg

Hei, Frank.
You are right. That's why I see the need for PDF too. I just didn't want to use money on a PDF generator, and the CutePDF priter does exactly what I need: Generate a PDF document.
I'll do it very simple: On my download pages, I'll put up two different links, and then the buyer can choose his format. |

In marketing circles, these were often popular because it was easier rebrand them and use them as viral marketing or affiliate tools.
Now it is possible to get rebranders for PDF, too.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Another area to keep in mind with the "other" PDF makers as Charlie mentioned is the options. I've had results in the creation of the PDF file size that showed big differences. It may not matter in your case but having a PDF that is 1 Meg vs. 3.5 megs for the same thing does make a difference.
A little playing with Acrobat settings and the size came down. BUT... without Acrobat I never would have know the difference.
My 2 cents, _________________ Gary
