Hi,
Does anyone here use yahoo hosting/domain registration services? If so, how has your experience been? Are you satisfied with them? They allow Google Adsense ads on yahoo hosted sites right?
I'm interested in all comments, good and bad.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi:

I picked up a couple of yahoo domain names with no probs, but I haven't used their hosting. If you're researching hosts, you can do some pretty thorough research at webhostingtalk.com. That's where I found the host I use and have been extremely happy with. Good luck.

try to search for a hosting reviews, they can be helpful, but keep in mind that many reviews are ordered by the webhosts themselves so there could be a mislead

There hosting is reliable but overpriced for the services offered. Their customer service is dismal. They are very slow to respond to your needs. Nearly impossible to get ahold of on the telephone. Difficult to get problems resolved.

In short there are many many hosts that offer so much more than Yahoo.

Yahoo Domain registrations may see like a good deal but don't let that find print bite you in the hiney. What about next year when you want to move to another registrar?

Yahoo! hosts over 30 million web sites and they manage more than 50 terabytes of data. Unlike most hosting companies they don't lock you into a long-term contract so you rent service monthly. Web servers are running FreeBSD Unix, which is a really stable production operating system for the Internet. With Yahoo you have virtually limitless MySQL databases. When you sign-up Yahoo! gives you $100 search marketing credit and $50 Google AdWords credit. All-in-all their package is full of services and capabilities.

Some say the service is overpriced but they are comparing a Mercedes to a Ford and saying that because each has doors and tires they should cost the same. To say that Yahoo! is overpriced is to say that 30 million people are wrong. Smile The only drawback I can find to Yahoo! is that their performance is slightly slower than one would hope. If you build your web site with this in mind (meaning you optimize) it will not be a problem.

There is a table comparing Yahoo!'s services with several other providers on my signature link.

Cheers,
Jason

One thing I try to avoid is having my domains and my hosting in the same place! I use (among others) 000domains.com for my domain names and I run my own hosting, so I'm a happy bunny!

Best

So that is why it took me 3 months a dozen phone calls and I still had to go to my credit card company to put a stop payment on an unwarranted charge - a mistake they made.

Turns out there are actually other companies you can use that also provide short term billing solutions - and at even better prices than Yahoo.

Free BSD is a good thing, a good product. Plus it allows Yahoo to make a lot more profit. You would think other companies would be smart enough to take advantage of this platform? Huh?

As do many other hosts. I think I use about 5 MySQL databases. And a few dozen emails. Good thing to have an unlimited amount though.

And why wouldn't they - they stand to profit enourmously by getting people in the door to their own services. And few people will need or use this. So it's just another "freebie" that really means nothing.

And overpriced.

Gee I'd better rush out and by Yahoo for their perceived BRAND VALUE. They have a well known name they must be good. Thats why I shop Walmart (I buy all my clothes - BRAND PERCEPTION!)

How many of those sites are Geocities or some other garbage free crap. Yeah Yahoo has been around awhile - so what? YAHOO IS OVERPRICED!!! I overpaid them for more than 5 years - right to the point that I got so tired of their limited services, high prices, and deplorable customer service that I pulled the plug on the few sites I used them for and moved them to a more feature rich and much less expensive solution. One which has faster response times and for years has had ZERO problems.

That is NOT the only drawback, and that is a serious issue.

Why should a webmaster have to make adjustments to their sites to cover for the shortcomings of the host?

Yippee!

Yahoo is simply another also ran.

P.S. Before you register a site with Yahoo you might want to check into the cost (and hassle) of moving to a new registrar. It might just suprise you.

Cheers,

After trying two other cheap web hosts and the headaches that go with them, I gave yahoo! a shot.

So far, so good.

They have a tight rein on the number of emails my custom php script can send daily, but since I'm not a spammer, I can live with it.

I had no trouble getting through to 24/7 tech support with a couple of questions and received the answers I needed.

Someone said they were expensive? google cheap web hosts and good luck with that.
