Hi,
Anyone who can answer this, please chime in:
When you create a domain name, I understand it's desirable to have a keyword/theme included into the URL.
But does it make difference in which order the words appear?
I ask because sometimes it makes more sense to have it one way as opposed to another but I want to make sure it doesn't penalize you in terms of ranking.
For example, let's use one of Rupert's sites as a quick example of what I mean:
For example, let's say I wanted to build a site on the theme of "DJ Equipment." This is just hypothetical; in actuality, I don't.
Anyway, would it make any difference in terms of SE ranking if my URL was:

The main advantage of having keywords in URLs occurs when someone links to your site and uses your domain name as the text in the link. So if your domain name is "Djequipment" or "equipmentDJ" and that is the text used in the hyperlink, you're dead out of luck.
That's because no one is searching for "Djequipment" or "equipmentDJ".
You'd have to persuade webmasters to link to you as "Dj equipment" or "equipment DJ" - and some wouldn't follow your instructions.
Therefore, it's much simpler for linking purposes if your site is called
DJ-equipment.com because then people linking to you can simply use your domain name "DJ-equipment.com" as the text in the link, and that helps boost your ranking for the phrase "DJ equipment".
On the other hand, I reckon a site looks more professional without hyphens. (I own sites with and without hyphens.)
I think the fact that searches at Google for "Dj equipment" and "equipment DJ" give different results indicates that it helps marginally to get the order right if possible.
Probably much more important is the fact that if you use the words in a logical order it will make your site much more memorable. Imagine if you have the words in the wrong order, and a competitor has them in the right order, you know where the repeat visitors will go, don't you?
