Do it really slowly and carefully.

Most important: Always link to a site before you request a link.

Examine the site very carefully. Find something you like. Write a chatty, friendly letter commenting favorably on some aspect of the site. (If you can't find something to praise, the site isn't worth linking to.)

Make it obvious that you've seen the site and that you're a real person, that your email is not some computer-generated junk.

Don't use the word "link" in the Subject line. Write something original, in the Subject line and in the body.

Don't say: "I'm on your site now." I've read that dozens of times in junk email.

Find a spot where the link to your site would be appropriate, and suggest that. (If you can't find such a spot, move on.)

Try providing the HTML code for your link, to make it easy for them to paste into their page. Tell them they're free to change the words any way they like.

Try to avoid words that would be caught by spam filters.

All this takes ages, but it increases your chance of success.

Have patience. It takes awhile, most people don't respond to your e-mail no matter what you do.

Keep pluggin' away and remember what Allan note says, he know's more than most.

1.believe first thing to do is to get your site un-suspended..
2.secondly to get link exchange from someone else, you have to have quality websites that don't look like a farm
3. manually request links

I have about 80% chances of getting link up manually

Hi
I just purchased linkmachine for linking to other sites, firstly it links automaticly to other linkmachine users, then it keeps a tab on the link requests and the other methods of linking. I am new to this but was able to link to about 90 sites in a matter of days. I dont know whether this is good or not, but seems to work, I just want to link to as many sites as I can then fine tune them later, what do you think? Robert.

From experience , most of those link exchange sites gives you
sites I wouln't link with...I do manual link exchange and it has
bloom into many page page rank for the most competitve keywords in my area. and I only have about 300-400 partners...quality over quantity works.

I really liked the Allan's post (except I don't link to people first as it leads to a lot of time waste for me).

What is the site you are promoting? Maybe then we can help you more.

This is one of the more interesting aspects of IM. I just opened a website and had major problem getting inbound links. There are a few basic truths about linking that you may or may not agree with:
1) If your market is a niche market, you are more likely to get inbound links.
2) If you enter a bigger market, chances are that unless you already have a good page ranking, the big dogs wont even bother with you, no matter what you email to them and however persistent you are.
3) The quality of your link is more important than the quantity of your links.
4) Linking to unrelated websites can be counterproductive.
5) There is facinating article on how to get indexed with a good page rank under 2 days and they say that the only way to do it is to get inbound links from websites with page rank above PR5. Higher the better.

However, there are ways to get into the google top pages. I personally prefer 1)Press release
2)Ezine Articles
3) Forum signatures
Even though my website is still to get a page ranking, the product I am marketing gets mentioned into the first 3 pages of google.
If you narrow down the search by using " " in google, the product gets mentioned on the first page. Try "forex trading Journal" in google, you will know what I mean. I get 5 links on the first page itself.

IMHO most ppl make websites and then search for quality links. However it would be wiser to see the competetion before entering a particular market especially if you are into AFF marketing.

Regards

The best link exchange is link exchange that gives you real, value sites-partners.

Think of exchaning links as of establishing certain online partnership, where both parties share targeted traffic, and search engine reputation - ranking.

It is possible to find the fields where sites in different niches are MORE than motivated to exchange links with real web sites.

Most important is that your site is relevant. PR0? No problems! It'll grow with time on value site. Years of PR 7 sites blindly rejecting link exchange offer from PR0 sites have gone; people think different way about online business relations with their niche partners now.

I personally hate link exchanging. I do it with my Casnio Portal site... but find it to be a real drag. Problem being that (as people have experienced) you somtimes don't hear back frmo a webmaster... EVER! So, you are stuck taking their links down and moving on. Then you have to constantly monitor partner links or write your own software to do it for you. Anyway, wahh wahh wahh. Smile Link exchanges (in most cases) are a necessary evil. There are some sites out there that maintain some of them... I think one was LinkExchangePartners or something. Don't remember as I didn't find any of them really helpful. Shocked

You don't imagine how many of the things you mentioned can be easily automated and stuffed into the tool. The job you mention is for robots, it's 21 century, it's their turn to work.

I also faced the same problems when doing link exchange, but I have my team of programmers and it makes everything easy.

Plus, it is very important to know where to look for reputable partners. I can show many reputable sites that hold their #1 due to links (and proper anchors of these links). Plus I do link exchange for my sites and start doing for some of my JVers. And even with today Google's rough weather, we find the place under the sun.

The bigger relevancy and quality of link exchange = the bigger value from the links.

Aye... I wrote a robot (been professional dev for over 10 years) for my Free Links Direct site to maintain all that for partners, but really don't have the time to re-work or re-write a new one for my other sites. Also, keep in mind that not everyone has the ability to either develop a robot or pay someone to do it (we devs don't come cheap these days). Smile
