I've read in a couple of places that AdSense may soon offer stats for each domain so someone with ads on several sites could see how each is performing.
Does anyone have a solid reference for this or is this just a rumor?

I read a support email from Google saying just this in part 4 of Audri Lanford's Adsense mini course. They seemed to be saying that you are now allowed to join once for each domain - a step in the right direction.
I think this is a "fairly solid reference".

...To answer your question we are currently working on a feature to allow you to track different sites through your one account; however, at this time the feature is not available. We would prefer that you maintain
one account for your websites and utilize this tracking feature when it becomes available. However, if you prefer to start tracking these sites separately now, you may submit an application for these sites individually through our website:
...If your additional application is approved you will receive an
email with details on how to get code for the new account.

It sounds as if we have two options.
Option 1 is to wait until they offer stats by domain. There doesn't seem to be an established time frame - other than they are "working on it."
Option 2 is to try and get each domain accepted individually and have separate usernames, passwords, payments, for each site
Google could probably do themselves a favor and provide an estimated time frame for implementing this new statistic. Otherwise, people who don't want to wait will go ahead and set up multiple accounts.
My guess is a lot of these people will then ask for all the account to be combined back into one for simplicity purposes once the new stats feature is available.
