Hi,
I'm looking to join a banner advertising network to host banners that will link to my site.

I'm not looking for any PR just targeted traffic to click on these banners and come to my site.

Any advice on good networks to join, sort of money I should be paying etc. ?

Any experiences in the banner advertising world people enough to share?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot speak from first hand knowledge since I haven't tried a banner ad campaign. However I have spent a lot of time in this and other forums. From what I have read banners get a very low click through rate and the traffic that results is not well targetted.

With that said it is likely that others may chime in with their experience.

Hi, I have also heard bad things about banner advertising. Can anyone else comment on this form of advertising?

When I go to a page, I don't mind seeing banner ads, and sometimes I do click on them. But if the page is full of banner ads, I think it's just some sales pitch and junky.

Depends on where you advertise those banners.

I was offered a free banner rotation on a particular website. It is a VERY targeted website that is the core of my niche. I sent them 4 banners to put in. They give me 10,000 impressions a day.

My traffic is up 12-15% and that brings up my sales/clicks about 3%.

I have put banners on other places that don't bring in a single click after a month... So be sure it's targeted and the visitors are "banner inclined". Smile

My banner is being shown through some banner exchanges. The click through rate isn't that great. Banner ads are really helpful to build brand awareness

Hi,
Banner Advertising definitely has lower click through rates. But there is a plus point to it also.
When a visitor clicks on the Banner he would be intrested in the product or site you are advertising. Thats why he would be clicking. So incase you have a product or service on your site there would be a greter probability of getting sales.
Text Ads have better click through Rates than Banner ads. Although concepts are the same.
If its only Traffic that you are looking You could look at Hit Exchanges or Traffic Exchanges.

How to Have a Good Banner
The Banner should contain precise information & to the Point.
Dont Provide Total Information Either.
It should be a Teaser line.
Find a catchy line so that the visitor would want to know more about it.
Designing Banners to look like Text Ads also has better Click through Rate
Dont make the Banner in a roit of colours.
Too much flashing colors sends out impressions of Strong Sales Pitch. So better avoid that.

Hope this would be helpful.
Thanks & Regards

I think it really depends on how targeted or specific your market is. It would make more sense to choose the sites within the Banner Ad network that are at most two degrees of relevancy to the kind of site that you are trying to promote. As opposed to going on a "shotgun" appraoch of trying to get more volume thru various types of sites.

Unless you pay per successful transaction banner ads usually cost more than they provide in revenue. In which case the only benefit is the back link you create.

I had a mixed bag of results with my banner advertising, I did a deal with a high traffic site where my banner was shown on every page. It had over 200,000 impressions a day for 2 weeks.

1 click , no sale

Then I put the same banner on a targetted site and it had a much lower 12,500 impressions but had over 50 clicks and at least 3 premium membership sales (to date).

They both cost the same amount!

That's what I found, it's the same with offline flyers. if you just stuff them through letter boxes of every house on the street then you might as well throw them away but, if you put them in a dispenser at your local shop then when someone takes one it's because they are interested in the product or service and more likely to become a sale.

enough to say that targetted is much better!

Banner ads are usually boring and ignored. It is why I am setting up a site that delivers HTML banners that can include audio and video. The site is not complete yet but will be soon.

The audio makes surfers seek out the ads and the video grabs their attention as long as it pertains to the subject they are interested in. My site has multiple categories in which to place your banners. I am also open to suggested categories. Each banner ad can be placed in up to 5 categories to target the consumers you are seeking. Site owners also choose what categories to display on their sites. Hopefully I will be able to get this site online and have it successful.

Anyway displaying Banners in other networks, does not do you any harm. Only if someone is interested in, he will click on a banner. Hence, that is why we give Banners + pop-under traffic to combine both, to achieve best results and many satisfied customers so far.
