Post subject: Question on getting listed in DMOZ.....
|
|
|
I've been monitoring DMOZ editor responses to site submissions on
resource-zone.com for a site that I'm trying to get listed there.
One thing I've noticed is their antipathy for affiliate sites in general.
How do you (more experienced) folks handle getting listed in DMOZ?
My current theory is to submit the site while it's in its 'content' phase,
and add the affiliate links later. (Kind of goes with SiteBuild It pattern
of 1)build the content, 2)get traffic, 3) monetize the traffic)
OK, I'll shut up now and listen to what folks have to say.

Some DMOZ editors will reject sites with affiliate links. However, some won't, and supervisors have stated that affiliate links should not be a reason to reject a site. The test is whether the site can stand alone, if the affiliate links were removed.
I wouldn't wait to monetize the traffic since DMOZ can take several months to a year to get into, and that's if you even get in. My site has been waiting almost 4 months now, and it is still nowhere near the top of the line.

This is exactly the right way you can go to be listed in DMOZ.
Good luck,

If you site lends itself to submitting while still in the content phase, by all means do it.
But don't let that stop you from adding your links if you get to the point where the site is ready and the DMOZ editors still haven't made it to you.
Like Debs said, the true test is whether or not your site can stand alone as a full content site without your links. Under those conditions, most DMOZ editors should accept you.........
........eventually.
