| Forgot one thing ebookcompiler lets You download a free, trial version. You still need an HTML editor. Word CAN be used, but....... |

Are any of the ones you mentioned PDF creators, or just EXE creators? www.pdf995.com is free (with ads). Although I read somewhere that it is not very good with graphics. I have only tried it with text and it worked fine.
That is the only one I tried so far.

So far just seen .EXE generators. I would like to create something better than PDF. I'm right now here: http://www.ebookapprentice.com/create/index.html
And it looks like I'll be there for a while to study........... |

Keep in mind ... when creating exe ebooks ... not everyone can open and read them. I am thinking MAC users in particular. PDF is the industry standard because it is viewable across different platforms.

Better than PDF?
I agree with Debs...
Another big problem with EXEs comes with printing them out. Speaking as someone who has downloaded hundreds of "ebooks" over the years, give me PDF any day.
Cheers,

| Search for pdf +free at www.download.com. I got one there. As for .exe ebooks: I think I'll offer both kinds. www.ebookcompiler has a nice tool. |

For me there is also the trust factor.
I'll download a PDF anytime. Then if the material is good, I'll go to the website of the author.
If it is an EXE ebook, I am more cautious. Do I trust the source? Could there be malicious code in the exe? Thus, I normally only download EXE ebooks from sources I already know and trust.

| If an .EXE ebook is downloaded from ClickBank, is that considered thrustworthy ? |

It isn't Clickbank's ebook ... and I don't know if they check the files for safety or not.
Do you have an aversion to PDF? PDF is very easy to create and prints very well, so I am curious. Personally I don't like exe ebooks and avoid them period. They are a pain to deal with IMO as PDF is much easier to understand since it uses common browser icons.

No I don't have an aversion towards PDF. I just got ebookcompiler: It's a very good product with lots of features. I will however (I think) give customers a choice of either exe-books or PDF. Beut exe is far superior in functionality. I also gave up finding a free eBook cover SW; I got an eBook cover package from www.thelogocreator.com. It works nicely, though with a few bugs that I easily learned to live vith. You can check out the result here (cover of my first eBook to come): http://www.databasedesign-resource.com/eBooks.html
and here:
http://www.databasedesign-resource.com/database-normalisation.html
I also created a cover for my newsletter: http://www.databasedesign-resource.com/Newsletter.html
I'll try to work a bit more with that one. The software cost 60$, but it's absolutely worth it. Got a few subscribers today: I do believe that a good appearance do you good....
Each layout took about 10-15 minutes, as a new user to the SW. Really easy to use. By the way : The cover i made for my first eBook was not a template, but something out of my database. It's easy to customize your eBook covers.
Guess I have to look for an affiliate program with them....
By the way: I tried out FormBuildIT!. Nice and easy, and with lots of possibilities. I even got one reply..... |

Great job on the ebook and newsletter graphics! Very, very professional, and so on target
I think to offer both PDF and EXE would be the way to go, since you already have the EXE software and like the features. You may not run into the concerns we have about exe ebooks, since your audience is more technically oriented than the standard. But the PDF for MAC users would be absolutely required.

Thank You, Debs, Thank You ! Thank You again !!
You're right: I should offer each book in 2 formats; Each book will then be 2 different links to ClickBank (I think I'll choose them because of their downloading funtionality). You are also absolutely right: My target audience know this stuff; after all their living is computers: A much lower threshold than many others.
By the way Debs, that eBook cover SW was a nice piece, and absolutely worth the money ! (10-15 min. to do a design...)
Have to hit the bed now: Bye and take care friends ! |
