It is always safer to register your domain names with reliable sources. Many times, those offering cheap domain names bulk register them and have them registered in their name than the actual owners name. This usually happens with package deals.
Other than that, I have seen that (I may be wrong), domain names registered with reputed sites like Network Solutions are faster to access (domain lookup time) than ones registered with cheap service providers like GoDaddy.
Anybody else noticed this? _________________ Work at Home Forum |

Access speed of your domain has nothing to do with your registrar. That is strictly your hosting service.
So it doesn't matter who you buy from, as long as you trust them. I prefer GoDaddy, but if you like Yahoo (and you can get a domain with no extras required for $2.99) then go with them. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I see Yahoo domains are $2.99 a year,
so I suggested that to him.
Does it make a difference other than price, where you get
your domain, mine are with domain maniac.

Keep this in mind....
Each registrar must pay Verisign $6 per year for each .com name....this is a fact and it is a fixed price no matter who the registrar is.
If someone is selling .com names for less than $6 per year....there's a catch somewhere. |

The catch might be nothing more than they think they can make the money back by selling you other things later.
A bit like a loss-leader in the supermarket.
Just a thought,

For Yahoo, I thought there was a limit to one domain per customer at the $2.99 price?
I host through 1&1 and they have $5.99 dot-coms with the option of free whois privacy. _________________ Robert

there are good prices at GoDaddy.com, even if their CPanel is not so good... _________________ ====================

I resell through GoDaddy's reseller program (WildWest) and have many domains there. But I also have domains at GoDaddy proper, Namecheap, 1&1, and a few other places.
99 % of the time they are all painless. Its that 1 % of the time that will make you crazy. That is when customer support means something.
Previous poster mentioned GoDaddy's Cpanel for hosting. They don't have CPanel unless you buy a private server package. Think they meant control panel, as CPanel is a brand.
Yes the domain deals are all loss leaders. 1&1 will give you at least one free domain name with hosting. GoDaddy may give you a domain for $1.99. Yahoo for $2.99. They all want your hosting business, which is very lucrative for them. Of course when domain renewal time comes up the rate is whatever the going rate is at the time, unless it is a freebie included with your hosting.
If you already have a domain with them now you are a customer, not a prospect. And selling to previous customers is way easier than to "suspects."
First year cost is only one part of the puzzle. Look at your costs for both the domain and hosting over a couple of years and decide what is the best deal for your needs. It may be a good idea to allow for additional domains and hosting for in your calculations.
Quite a few reputable webhosts will give you a free domain name, more with an advanced package, with your hosting account as an ongoing perk. Web hosting is a very competitive business. So take advantage of it. That said I would avoid this if you have ANY doubts you will stay with the hosting company.
Make sure you understand your domain host and web host's terms of use. Don't violate them. Typical violations are SPAM complaints, adult sites where not allowed, inadvertant adult content, etc. If you are planning on doing anything that might be a violation of the terms, find somewhere more lenient.
You can change your dns to any web host's nameservers at any reputable domain name registrar.
Many factors are involved with how fast a page loads. The way the page is coded may be the biggest factor. Other than that, most slow loads are server (host), path, or browser issues, and have nothing to do with your registrar. _________________ Your Free Pass to the Members-only ListBuild List
