One thing to keep in mind Steve is that the faster and larger you grow, the earnings per page per month may take a clip.
The more content you add, especially from authors, it's harder to do quality control when you're posting a hundred articles or more a month.
At a bare MINIMUM on sites that are kept fresh (content and IBL), $1 per page per month is the starting point. Yes, this doesn't sound like a lot, but you've also must consider the worst case scenario as this is a business.
Of course the sky's the limit to what you can earn above that, but knowing if you're able to publish 2000 pages of quality content and that $2,000 is practically guaranteed per month to START, that is certainly reassuring to me. _________________ Robert

Well, I have noticed the dip.
I grew my site to over 300 hundred pages, and the revenue dropped significantly.
I went back to old school, and took notice of what was happening, my site became a article base, and none of my own touch was there.
So I am revamping. _________________ Alex Marlin a.k.a achiever

Remember to get reciprical links, and submit
articles for one-way links, and internal linking.
300 pages is great! Now you can add one every
week or 2, and start on another site.
It all adds up to $$. Two sites that earn $250
a month each is also good and takes the pressure
off by diversifying.

Update:
My site was doing great, but since the Google update, my site has just hit rock bottom.
My indexed pages has dropped, my affiliate sales has dropped.
Before I was getting about 1000 page impression daily, now I am down to 200.
I am wondering how to go about getting this site back up to speed.
What would be the best method or approach to use to get this site going again? _________________ Alex Marlin a.k.a achiever

Hi Achiever,
I really don't understand how this happens
to people.
I started in April of 2004, I now have 5 sites with
200+ pages each. I did link exchanges, and submitted
articles to articles directories. I have added content
every month or so sometimes every few months.
I got links slowly over time. My content, either I wrote
or I hired an author to write original content. I did my keyword
research targeting lesser competitive keywords, my product
pages were higher competitive. I varied the anchor text when
linking back to my site. Each page links to at least 2 other
related pages, internal linking.
These five sites together 2 are seasonal avg. 25 to 30 dollars
a day. I did not build them all at once when I started, now though
I have started to build multiple sites in 2006.
All this time the SE updates have never affected my traffic.
You have Google, Yahoo, and MSN and other smaller search
engines.
Sorry you lost traffic, I'd say write some original articles
and submit them to 10 articles directories, and link back to
related article pages. Submit one article to 10 directories
every other week for a couple of months.
Try also choosing some products in
your niche and write completely natural reviews NOT paying
attention to any keywords, just write naturally. Put the name
of the product in the title tag and make it catchy.
Keep adding original content each month or every other month.
Make more sites, because you never know which niche will
be a winner. I have 5 sites and most of my profit comes
from 2 and 1 especially and the other trickle in, but they
all add up.

Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones. It does happen if you get enough sites out there. It's happened to me and it will happen again. _________________ Robert

It happens to everyone along the way... just prepare.
The the question is ... when the traffic drops how do you combat it?

Well, I have to give you an update on this.
The traffic dropped tremendously and I decided to just add
some private label articles to my site.
And I must admit, things is picking up again.
It just shows you, don't dump your site, just make some small changes.
I honestly love internet marketing, it is so un-predictable.
Well, at this moment I am trying out, some new stuff, will see how my traffic increases. _________________ Alex Marlin a.k.a achiever

And don't stop adding content. Keeping your site "fresh" is more important than ever. _________________ Robert

I have tried using other people's articles but it does not help. I have been unable to make more than $10 a month. However, when I started writing on my own and adding an article a day, I have made $200 this month and hope to make more. Now, I have found a good resource where I get my articles written, since I find writing a bore, www.guru365.com. Here, I just submit my project and pay $10 to the website and I get replies from people who are willing to write. Believe it or not, I have a person who writes articles for me for just $3. Check it out, maybe it could help.
Cheers,
Bean |

I was wondering.... what on earth do you PUT on 300 pages??
My first site is a myspace layout site, and i'm going to start working on a horse related site, but it's going to be centered around classified ads... i don't know what on earth i could put on that many pages... for the myspace one, i have maybe 20 pages because i add a page for each catagory of layouts... does that count? _________________ http://www.MeMyspaceAndI.com |

I have several content sites, and one thing that I've noticed is that the ones where I did not do link exchanges, or did very few link exchanges, seem to do better than the others. So I'm just submitting to directories and doing PAD articles now.
But I had a big drop on my two best performing sites last year, I just try to add as mich content as possible, and am creating several new sites to see which ones will work out.
Having different niches is a great way to find out what works, but the problem with having so many sites is that I can't keep most of them "fresh" at the moment - I can't afford more than about $150 a month for writers right now... so I'm just writing what I can and am hoping they'll pick up.
Another thing is that I recently started a site with all reprint articles - just so I could put a bunch of content up and see what happens... and right now it's my 2nd best performing site, and I haven't touched it in months... so it's helping get me through until I can hire more writers.
But on the topic, my biggest sites have about 150 original articles each... and I know I need to add more. _________________ my affiliate marketing blog
