| I was just told (by a domain name registrar) that Google is giving ranking preference to domains that have a longer registration length for their regular (non-paid) listing. Does anyone know anything about this? |

Google's patent application has said they may look at that to determine rankings, but there's no guarantee that they are or how much it will affect your rankings (probably minimal).
What is guaranteed though is your domain registrar is trying to up-sell you to get you to spend more money with them. _________________ Robert

To me that sounds like something that could easily have a negative impact on many legitimate sites and also something that could be easily manipulated.
IMO any perameter for determining rankings that could easily include masses of legit sites will probably not be anything to worry about.
This is like a while back where there was concern about having "link" in the file name of your links pages. Something millions of legit site owners do.
I wouldn't loose sleep over it. _________________ Dave

I imagine Google's reasoning is that search engine spammers creating hundreds of spammy scraper sites which last in Google for only a short while won't want to risk spending the money to register a domain for 10 years, because they'll probably be throwing the money away. I think there's logic in the idea. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Many people believe that long-standing sites already receive favourable treatment - so there's a similarity with favouring long registration periods for new sites, too.
Even so, I don't believe it's going to be a big factor (if a factor at all). Just another of those many "might help" ideas. The difference is, this one costs money up front.
I, for one, shan't be rushing to change based on the advice of a registrar. If you have just a couple of domains, it might be worth a try, but it's not practical for me.
Just my opinion,
