As I do more homework about SE rankings,I found that link popularity *IS* imortant,or for that matter it could be the most important factor to be ranked higher at major SEs.
I don't have any incoming link to my site,so I searched for reciprocal links that matched my site's subject. I sent several mails to the site owners saying that I really liked their site and why and what my site was all about and that I *added* their links to my site already. All I asked them was if they're interested in link exchange with me or not.
None of them replied to my mail!
I thought that if they didn't find my site to be good enough to do the link exchange, then just say so. They must be laughing that "..oh,thank you for adding my site's link to your site, and by the way I really don't care about addind your site's link to my site. Thanks for your free service."
Many sites who are asking the link exchange say that *YOU* link their site's link to your site first, and then they will link back to you.
Well, I found out that it's not always true.
As I mentioned in other thread that I was interested in a linking software Arelis and I just purchased it. Though SBI is almost ready to launch link exchange feature,Arelis seems to be the most powerful link software.
I already found more than 100 related links in just one click and that it creates mail messages to the site owners(though you'll need a little personal touch) and it also creates template pages that matches your site design. And it monitors who's still linking to you and who's not.
Having said that,it doesn't guarantee that Arelis makes all the related site owners want to link to your site, but it will increase chances to get linked from other sites.
Since I have another site that was not built by SBI, I think Arelis will serve me well. In Arelis testimonials, Google's CEO mentions about the importance of link popularity and though content is always important, but the link popularity could be/will be more important than the site content in the future.
I remember one site about Plasma TV. This guy does not have any good content about Plasma TV,but he just wants to buy a $11,00 Panasonic Plasma TV and that he asks people $1 donation for him, wishing that 11,000 people will donate for him. And his site is ranked #8 at Google, because somehow his site has some good incoming links.
So, I just forget about my bad experiences about the link exchanges, I'll just move on.
