Does anyone on hear participate in reseller programs? If so, what kind, do you like them, made any money yet (yes or no is all I am looking for) and any drawbacks to cinsider before getting into them.
I signed up with Fatcow to do webhosting and everytime I think I am ready to start selling I find out I need yet another upgrade. Each time I ask if this is all I need and they say yes, when it turns out it is not. They offer a 100% refund if you aren't satisfied and I am going to be calling for my money back but I would still like to do some reselling if I can find the right program.
Thanks. _________________ Scott Bianchi

Personally, no. They always strike me as the worst of both words...
Much more hassle than affiliate programs, but much less money than your own products.
One related exception, though: resell rights to digital products. These can and do work for me.

For me buying reseller hosting and then promoting your own site seems a lot better idea than promoting an affiliate link. The margins are at least a lot bigger and you can gain new customers by word of mouth plus your customer is yours as long as he stays (not a one time comission).
The big problem is of course providing support for customers, however you can outsource this or you can even find reseller offers where the support is included in the price. _________________ KeywordHandy.com -- Yahoo keyword bids, keyword suggestions from Google and Yahoo and Wordtracker all in one + the Adsense preview tool |

All the web hosting reseller programs I have looked at take care of the customer service and the billing. As the reseller you set your prices and they just charge you their rates, anything above and beyond that is your profit.
This is why I was asking if anyone here was doing it. It seems like a good deal. If I have a customer and then they decide to upgrade their plan or add some other services etc... I get paid on that too, whereas if I was just an affiliate once I get that first commission anything after that I get nothing.
I am sure there are some negatives, I am just trying to discover them before getting into it. _________________ Scott Bianchi

If that's really the case, fair enough. The ones I've seen seemed to want me to act as an intermediary.
Two points though...
1. Getting traffic for "web hosting" will prove difficult or expensive.
2. Watch the churn rate (if you dare). It's a fact of life that it's easy to set up a web site and then watch it starve to death. This tends to put people off. This is a particular problem at the cheap end.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Yea, it would be if you just aimed for "web hosting" in general.
I know someone here that makes a few thousand dollars a month from reselling web hosting. They target a specific niche and contact business owners offline and host their websites. _________________ Robert

SShh! At this rate there will be no secrets left...
That's the funny thing about secrets. They often work best if no-one knows how, but sell best if everyone knows who.
Seriously, it's an excellent point. Offline contact is easily neglected in these techy times...
Some shrewd direct marketers use the net more as a quick testing ground before they replicate the offer (with much higher responses) offline.
Driving offline promotions to online sales pages can work very well if stamps turn out cheaper than PPC.
Cheers,
