Hi there

im looking to put up a home page and was wondering whether its better to make it a medium size site full of content

or make it a small site and get people to opt in to a auto responder which thus promotes the content by delivering email or pdf files

or whether its better to get them to opt in and redirect them each week via email to a report ive done on the site

help is appreciated

thanks

Hey, David -

Just my 2 ...

Other than the accepted fact that you simply must have a hungry target market with money and know how to inexpensively reach them ...

First, your site has to have a 'mission.' What's your goal?

Second, you have to have a good offer based on your goal. Do you want to gain credibility as an expert? Do you want to build a mailing list? Do you want to sell a product or deliver a service? Where do you want to be a year from now? Five years from now?

Third, whatever your competition is doing, do the opposite. That's what Jay Conrad Levinson and Trout & Ries teach. Be different and make some noise with your unique difference.

Last, once you have your answers to those issues above, you'll know how to create the site that accomplishes your objectives.

Hope that helps,

God Bless you,
Chip Tarver

Hello David.

There are pros and cons to the various methods you subscribe. There is no right and wrong. It depends on the market you are in and the way you want to do things. Here's a few thoughts from me...

This is the way to go if you expect the free search engines (such as Google) to be your main traffic source. You will build a longer term traffic supply that will need less ongoing work to maintain it, but the time and effort to build a content site are obviously much greater than with other approaches.

Where will your traffic come from? It will be harder to succeed in the free SEs with a small site (at least in competitive areas). Building an opt in list quickly the lazy way can make grabbing top rankings in Google look like simplicity itself. Besides, delivering content by email or PDF can work irrespective of the size of your site.

Due to over-effective spam filters, this can be a good approach, and quite a few marketers are doing this these days. But even if you do send out a full ezine, I'd certainly consider a web-based, SE-indexable archive of issues.

To cut a long story short, content sites are all the rage (especially round here), but other methods still work well, too. As with many things in life, it depends

Hope this helps,
Charlie.
