Post subject: Question about spam
|
|
|
I am marketing an affiliate product offline. Actually I am recruiting others to market this product under me resulting in me getting commissions as well. My target market is a select group of people that may have various membership organizations they are members of. I can easily get these members email addresses online.
My question is, is this considered spam and would I be setting myself up for trouble by contacting these people through email with my offer? There is no cost to join and they can only increase there revenues by participating. My offline mailing campaigns are resulting in over 3% signups but it gets expensive and is very time consuming.
Your suggestions are appreciated. |

Yes....if you email them about a commercial proposition and they have not specifically requested this information, it is spam.

No, that doens't have to mean spam.
If you do not bulk email it's not spam and as long as you put your name and physical address with a way for the reader to unsubscribe you could be perfectly legal.

But you certainly would risk being called a spammer!
And that's just as worse.
In your message I would include:
- a nice personal remark if you have one, something that's only for THAT member
- why you're sending the email
- ask their permission to send them an offer
- that it's a one time email
- your name, email and physical address; oh, and don't forget to list your phone number so they can call you!
- that you have a reference list of people who allowed you to make them an offer
The better your message is targeted towards the specific member, the more it reduces chances of spam complaints.
