Post subject: newbie has ? on chitika
|
|
|
Hi - I need help. I am an artist who sells custom pieces and some stock items. How would I use Chitika? I recently signed up for adsense and understand I must deconceptionalize Chitika. But my understanding of that is I must point to specific products.
What products would I point to that would apply to what I do? How would I know what products there are that I could point to? I am so confused...
Thanks,

Check out their preview tool at http://chitika.com/preview.php. Type in a word and it tells you what the resultant advert would be.

If your website used to sell any type of product, be it an informational or some hard goods you have to be very careful placing above mentioned ads on your site. There is a very good chance that competing products will be displayed there and instead of getting your product sold - you loosing customer when they click on one of the ads.

You have copied a quote from an article about Adsense/Yahoo contextual ads into a thread about Chitika.
There's always a compromise when placing ads on a page where you are selling something. Using Chitika's non-contextual mode you can choose what products are advertised.

Actually, I can get rid of my competitors easily, just monitor my adsense links and filter out the direct competitors. No problem. It is Chitka I'm confused about.
What is contextualized, non-contextualized? I don;t understand the terms.
Using their preview tool brings up no products that tie into my website. (glass painting artist) I've tried tons of searches, no luck. Is there a list somewhere? _________________ Donna Jo

In this case 'contextualized' means that the program scans the content of your page and decides what advert to place. 'Non-contextualized' means that you specify the product, or range of products, to place in the advert. This is the mode you need to use to run ads alongside Adsense.
I don't think there's a list, but I'm sure I read, some months ago, that Chitika were using many (all?) of the advertisers on shopping.com. These do tend to be fairly general products, rather than the eclectic products you might be looking for.
Perhaps in your case you will be better seeking out a relevant affiliate program to promote, if there is one.
