Hi All,
I am in need of extra income as we have just had our 1st child and I came upon James Martell in my 'earn money from home' google search.I was just wondering if anyone can succeed at this or exactly how difficult it is.I work in the computer indutry but I do not know an awful lot about web design, is that a big disadvantage ? Also writing articles seems a bit daunting.Would you suggest that I buy Martells book and look into it or steer clear?
Thanks for any response |

Only you can answer these questions. We all knew nothing about anything when we entered this world.
The main factor is: How determined are you to succeed? Are you prepared to keep going when (not if) the going get tough? _________________ Allan Gardyne

I think it is a bit of a disadvantage to not know anything about webdesign, but on the other hand it doesnt take that much to create a site.
If you dedicate some time to it, and try to learn just what you really need you can take down that disadvantage fast without losing too much time.
I personally am desperately trying to find an extra income besides my web-development jobs ... as i dont get enough clients at the moment. ( i like being a webmaster more too ) and have found out its hard to get it going ... but i still feel in time it will come.
I think that you have a good chance if you can find something you love and can promote. Then writing aricles will get way easier and you might even setup your own eBook. I learnt the hard way it does not come overnight ... but still dedication and time and some love for what you do will get you far _________________ Web Page Design & Web Master Resource

Hello Wenger,
This is a good web site to start with - as there is so much info for free!
http://www.associateprograms.com/search/beginners.shtml
Welcome to an Online education!
"Daunting"? Yes, can be if you look at the final product such as JM's web site or this one. However, I suspect that's what puts many folks off from rolling up their sleeves and giving it a go.
The "final product" (which is never final for very long, especially in Internet time) is something which most of the folks who've gone public with took a long time and a lot of effort to achieve. (There may be a few who have the Midas touch and make big $$$$ in 6months working 1 hour a week but they are probably as rare in AM as Tiger Woods is to Global population of Golfers..).
Even without Web dev skills (check out the HTML tutorials linked to from this site), if you have an awareness of how s/w or h/w is built, sold and supported in the Computer Industry you currently work in, a lot of the concepts can be scaled down to support a SOHO-based AM effort - all the way from a part-time hobby up to a full time biz. (Reading a few biogs of self made entrepreneurs should still most illusions about hard work and success and problems. The AM trinity;-)
If you like books then I'd also recommend David Allen's "Getting Things Done". GTD, with it's regular mind sweeps, project list and physical next actions can be applied very successfully to a SOHO biz such as AM.
Also, if writing articles and web design etc are not things you ultimately want to do ( much of..) I'd also recommend Michael Gerber's "The E-Myth". This may help with the "working in versus working on" approaches to your biz.
Good luck in whatever you choose! |

Thanks for the all the advice.
I do realise that it will take a lot of hard work but then again tell me something good that doesn't.
It will take me a few months to get to grips with the basics but as has been said it is not a get rich quick scheme and is a viable longterm business plan for a sideline. That very much appeals to me.
I have just downloaded the affiliates master course and will start straight away.
Thank You again for all of the advice. |

Your best bet would be to start with a BLOG using wordpress which you can get free from www.wordpress.org
or if your hosting provider has it.. like hostgator.com its a 2 click install
You login with a user and pass and away you go.. you can add pics, text etc.. and not have to know a huge lot about HTML
you can use programs like blogjet, post2blog for posting to your blog if you dont want to log in..
certainly are many ways to earn online. _________________ Affiliate Organizer Software - http://www.affiliateorganizer.com
