I just got an email saying that if you have
a keyword focused dashed domain name your site
is in big trouble because of an up coming
Google update next year.
Are we all going to change our domain names now?
I don't think google will gray bar sites because they
have a keyword domain name.
(good example of fear marketing) |

Doubt they will do a complete penalty of all sites with keywords and dashes per se.
They may, however, use it as yet another parameter for comparison with the other characteristics of the site based on the huge pool of data that they have at their disposal for analysis. |

If google ban the domain name with key words and dashes, then, it has to ban millions of websites.
If google really goes in this way, it should do in a more smarter way .
Like: banning these websites with *SAME* content-
"www.keyword.com"
"www.keyword-samekeyword.com"
"www.keyword-samekeyword.net'
etc etc...
Google might think that because of same content on all sites, one webmaster owns all of them

Rumors, lies and email!
Even if there was some truth in the rumour how would they to decide what was a keyword (or brandname) and would they just carpet ban all sites with dashes presuming that there were keywords in the domain name?
I don't think Google really want to alienate millions of legitimate website owners and fully fledged businesses that have such domain names.

There are g@@gle "doom and gloom" rumors almost daily now. If they carried most of what I've heard in recent months, they'd eliminate most of their index.

Sounds pretty far fetched to me, there's no way they could decipher what sites are legitimate or not.

while most of my sites dont have dashes.. i do have some that do and I strongly believe if any penalties are applied it wont be to do with the fact that you have a dash in between i believe it will be to do with the site itself.
