Post subject: Bandwidth - spam problem in blog
|
|
|
i run a website on recipes, i get about 200 visitors a day. recently my webhost freezed my site for 4 days as i exceeded the bandwidth. When i noticed my stats , i found that 90% of my stats was utilized by my blog which was started a week back my site was frozen.
I also found that a lot of unrelated ( mostly adult/porn/spamming) sites visited my blog almost every minute and that seems to have triggered a bandwidth loss which otherwise was operating at less that 25% of my maximum allowed bandwidth.
I researched a few sites on how to avoid bandwidth theft, and i enabled hotlink protection allowed by my webhost to protect my image files being used by some other site.
I have used wordpress for my blog, i used the options menu from the admin panel in my blog to black list any site which posts spam in the comments; but i'am not able to directly block these spam sites in my wordpress. | Quote: | | What have adult sites have got to do with A site on Cooking? |
WPlease help me out with this as any webmaster would know what bandwidth and webhosting costs mean. _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

WP is known for its spam comments. There are some good plugins that you can install to combat the spam.
As far as your bandwidth goes, do you know how much you get per month? Sounds like a very tiny amount if you got banned over spam. You might want to switch hosts... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

the spam doesn't come from my comments , it comes from referrers, they are coming here every minute. I did some searching and i have installed a plugin called spam karma. lets see what happens.
Thanks anyway _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

Spam Karma is pretty slick.
Automated spam is one of the biggest downsides to using WordPress.
See if that fixes the spam issue... it may or may not affect the bandwidth usage though... depends on where in the line the blocking spam/refer occurs. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Thank you, i've installed spam karma and the spammers are still coming but they're not using my bandwidth now... _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |
