Hi there,
Name's Mark, 21 from North-West UK (nr Liverpool).
Been lurking about the forums for a while and thought it would only be polite to register
The vibe here is brilliant, people helping just for the sake of being helpful (and, ok, a link in their sig).
I'm looking to venture into affiliate marketing sometime in the near future and thought it best to do some worthwhile groundwork. I've been educating myself for 2 months now with the likes of Roslind Gardner's SAH, Ken Evoy's Affiliate Masters course, Brad Callen's free 10-step SEO thing and of course this forum's vast knowledgebase.
I'm looking to start a site doing dating service reviews, romantic gift ideas, tips, date ideas and some other things. I know the first thing that's going to be said about a begginner jumping into such a competitive field, but to be honest romance is really one of the only things I love and could create a decent, informative site about. I've looked into narrowing it down to a niche of certain types of dating, but it's mostly the romance aspect I can write about.
Plus, I think I've got some pretty original ideas to add to my site, hopefully make it stand out from the crowd a bit.
Also, to start with at least, the only major investment I'm putting in is ?70 (around 120USD) for 2 years worth of hosting (domain inc.). I'm planning on relying on SEO, Article submission and an e-leaflet to circulate on p2pnetworks (not so sure about this last one - maybe has a viral possibility IF anyone actually downloads it lol). So I won't be making a commitment to a PPC campaign or other paid advertising (again, YET...if I can get a semi-respectable traffic flow, I'll look into it)
Like I say I'm 21 from the UK. I have ZERO knowledge of what taxes, licenses and other charges/payments would be involved in starting an affiliate site.
This is the area that possibly worries me the most, I can learn how to promote and optimise a site to make money off it. But I don't really wanna make a successful site only to get chucked in jail for not paying enough whatever.
Anyone form the UK give me advice in this area? I mean, ABC kind of basics.
Many thanks for reading what became of bit a beast of an intro post!
-Mark

Hi Mark, Welcome!
To increase the chance of getting an answer to your question, ask it the general affiliate section, and choose the words you place in the Subject line carefully to attract UK affiliates. _________________ Allan Gardyne
