Hi,
I was editing an includes page foot.htm,
when I hit save I got server timed out.
I uninstalled and reinstalled fp extensions.
I uninstalled and reinstalled fp 2003
software.
I still get server timed out and I can not access
my files. I can open the other sites ok.
My host is not able to help.
Any ideas what I can do to fix this.
Thanks,
Jeremy |

Hi Jeremy,
I feel for ya! I use FP too and it can be a royal pain sometimes. I've seen this problem reported in the Outfront forums (which specialises in FP and DW use). A quick search through them found one suggestion to check the syntax of your META tags, since this can happen if there's an extra quotation mark or something like that. Does it bomb on the same page upload? Is there any kind of pattern to when, how, why, where it bombs? If you don't get an answer here, you might take a look around the Outfront forums. Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

It only happens when I hit save after
editing a page.
With fp2002 when that happened I deleted
the page I was working on and that would fix
it.
This time it did not work. That's it, for my future
sites I will use something else to build my sites,
not fp.
The only other thing to do is to rebuild the site.

P.S. What's Bill's phone number. |

I presume that's *any* page, not a particular page? So this used to happen to you with 02 as well? I wonder if it might be some configuration in your computer that doesn't work and play nice with FP? What operating system and version are you running it on?

LOL If you get it, share...

I'm using windows xp security pack 2,
yes this also happened with 02.
My other 3 sites with fp so far so good,
but I'm not making anymore sites with fp.
I'll probably try a web site builder, later
for any new sites.
I asked this question on a microsoft fp post,
no reply so far.
You have to pay for email or phone support,
not good.
I'll cut my loses and move on.

I've almost never gotten a useful answer from there, if at all. I've noticed that happens when there are too many people with questions and too few people with answers. That's one reason I think this forum is so great -- the experienced people are still here helping out the newbies.
Good luck with your hunt for a new website building program. Have you considered Site Build It? Or, if that doesn't meet your coding needs, Dreamweaver. Good luck in any case.

before you give up on FP...give me a shout...let's see if we can't find the problem.
between myself and my colleagues (all frontpage experts) I know we can find the problem...

Hi Lynne,
Thanks for your replies.
The only solution I see right now is
to copy one of my other sites, rename
the folder and rebuild the site that has the problem
in fp.
I just checked now, still says server timed out.
