Hi, i was thinking of doing some email campaigne and was thinkin gof whether to buy or create my own autoresponder.

I check around. There are autoresponder services that you have to pay yearly fees and there are some who you just pay for a one time fee for an autoresponder software and install in your pc and you can email away.

There are some web hosting that allow you to create autoresponder but i am not sure is it tough enough to set up the kind of autoresponder as the same as those that you paid for.

Any advices are welcome. Thank you.

It's not that tough to set up your own autoresponder for free, but that isn't the real problem...

Here are two issues:

1) If you do it yourself, consult your host and very strongly consider confirmed ("double") opt in. Spam allegations need to be considered before you get them.

2) Delivery rates: the best third party services work very hard at this. Let's face it, many people won't even read your message even if they do receive it, but if they don't receive it at all, they don't stand a chance.

Basically, unless you're writing to existing customers (and you remind them of this), I'd go for confirmed opt in with a third party provider like Aweber.

Remember, many people get the best results from smaller high quality lists. Making people confirm their request is one step down this road. Just outline carefully what they must do, to make the best of it.

Just my opinion,
Charlie.

What ever service (one time fee and install on your website or monthly fee services), make sure these two things:

1. ALWAYS go for double opt-in. (even then many emails bounces)

2. Bounced email management. So your host won't get angry up on you.

Just my thoughts!

Hey Learner,

There's already good advice from the other guys here, so I just wanted to chime in with a couple of recommendations for you.

There are three services I've had experience with - Aweber, Constant Contact and 1shoppingcart.com. They're all really good services that cost from $20 - $30 a month (and up) but they each have their own benefits and you should research them more to see which one would meet your needs.

Aweber and 1shoppingcart.com are great for text emails and they do allow you to send HTML email, but you'll have to provide your own HTML as they don't provide an easy way to do this.

Constant Contact is great for text and HTML as they offer a selection of templates you can use to send some nice looking emails, but this is where you need to weigh the costs and benefits of each.

I use Aweber myself and prefer to send shorter text messages, but depending on the business you're in you might prefer to "pretty" yours up with some nice images and send HTML instead.

Hope this helps,

Steve

If you do decide to host your own .. follow Charles advise for sure..

Look into PHPlist.
Double opt-in, bounce management, manage many lists, autoresponder features and more.. and it is open source (free).

My web host offers autoresonders in its marketing package (can view that package at - http://server1.masteradvertising.com) and supports users of it all the way. They also recommend PHPlist and no others because of the SPAM issues online these days.

Aweber.com and Emailaces.com are recommended.
