What best describes your attitude to multi-tier affiliate programs?
Brilliant - the more tiers, the better.

Fine as long as the merchant emphasises commissions are related to sales - not MLM.

I prefer not to promote them, because people may confuse them with MLM.

They are the same as MLM

I can honestly say I have learned a lot more about MLM and 2 tier programs, especially from Charlie and Tim, because of this thread. Thanks Smile

You're welcome.

This is one of my favourite subjects, and I can talk about it all day. I also think it's a topic that is often misunderstood in affiliate circles, due to the strong (negative) emotions many people associate with MLM.

It's almost as if people are scared to mention affiliate programs and MLM in the same sentence (...he bravely pointed out).

Cheers,
Charlie.

Seems like a large part of the discussions seem to relate to the tiered commissions and how they "multiply" at each level...

I would feel that the other important aspect of multi tier affiliate programs we should consider is their ability to "maximise" the value of each visitor to a site...in the sense that visitors to an affiliate site who do not want to buy products may still sign up as affiliates and be of value to the original affiliate, rather that become another "wasted" visitor...

In single tiered programs, if the visitor does not buy the product, affiliates earn nothing...unless of course they manage to get hold of the visiotrs email address and try to do follow ups...

I've actually written some related articles at:
